Interstate shipping

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by James Galloway, Aug 1, 2003.

  1. Hi all.

I just got my Learners permit again - long story - and I was thinking of
buying a bike in Melbourne and shipping it here to Adelaide. Any
    suggestions?
I've heard a couple of horror stories of bikes being damaged while shipping
and no one willing to pay for the repairs, so what and who could I contact
    about it?
    Any suggestions on freight companies?
    Insurance?

    Thanks in advance!

    J.

  2. It's a Suzuki Across, of which there seem to be bugger-all, and those I've
looked at are either overpriced or thrashed AND overpriced!

It's the nature of the beast, they are all thrashed....

Expect to pay $300 or so to get it over here. MIght be less if you can
find a truckie willing to take it as a backload uncrated.

Curtis Bros Van Lines used to, but I dont think they do Adelaide
    anymore.

$28 midweek Virgin airline ticket one way, ride it back about 7 hours,do the
road about 8 times a year (both ways) and actually costs me $27 on LPG !$1
    cheaper !!

If it was a Italian bike and you could wait till October i would bring it
back for you for a slab of VB

Ferguson Racing do Melb-Adel every fornight, $260 incl. insurance
    (uncovered).

Otherwise Virgin flight, and ride back.

The Adelaide Hills will keep you entertained for a while..
