Strictly speaking, 2,2,4-trimethylpentane, which is the octane isomer
    we're talking about.
Sure, but it's the wrong one.

Petrol would have left me feeling better than the red wine did...

Ah, now I see. Like a Moth to the flame. I found several have consumed
cups of that oily looking red liquid on sunday morning. Did it taste as
    bad as it looked?

Tbh, I could have happily necked liquidised brussel sprouts by then,
    so god knows!

I have no idea, I know I drank some but that's all I can say about the
    matter.

Er... you didn't drink from a pint glass with an inch of brown fluid in
    the bottom, did you?

'cos that wasn't the dregs of a pint- that was my old brake fluid.

I certainly didn't I'd never touch anyone's drink, abandoned or not.

I'm a bit surprised you didn't think to dispose of the glass or at least
it's contents and give it a good wash before it ended up going through a
dishwasher with a few dozen other glasses.

I've made a mental note in case there are any suspicious deaths or
    poisonings. :)

Indeed. When I was a feckless youth it was common practice to ****
arsehole landlords over by leaving a glass on their premises
containing a few drops of paraffin or similar. If undetected by the
glass collector, it would find its way into the glass washer and
contaminate all the glasses subsequently washed.

  18. I know a bloke who kept having his home made wine nicked by a lodger..
until one day he left a couple of wine bottles with sterilising
    solution[1] in the usual place.

One duly disappeared.. and half an hour later the lodger was being very
very sick. He didn't nick any more wine after that!

    Phil.

[1] Can't remember the stuff - it's not particularly toxic (unless you
are a yeast cell or a bacteria!) but is is a spectacular emetic..

Can leave some nasty burns in the mouth and throat if it's the public
    house grade stuff.

  20. Nah - it was the stuff for sterilising wine bottles before they get
reused - it's just kills any leftover yeasts and the bacteria that
convert alcohol to acetic acid (lactobacteria? Can't remember).

It doesn't contain anything like bleach!
