I don't know who Tesco buy off, but all supermarkets have a contract
with the major suppliers anyway, so there's no reason for the petrol to
    be significantly worse, IYSWIM.

However, dodgy batches of fuel do sometimes happen.

The VFR runs fine on anything I throw at it, the 155 is similarly fine,
but the 75 definitely runs better on optimax, as did my last shite old
    Alfa.

Both my bikes start and idle better on Optimax, my petrol stove seems to
    light better too. :)

I did see a dyno chart of a car engine running on optimax / regular
unleaded. There did seem to be a smoothing of the power curve, and
    _very_ small gains.

I think that some people report getting a few more miles out of a tank
full on their bikes, when running optimax.

On an stranger note, my petrol stove gets lots of little yellow flecks
in it when I fill that with Optimax.

Worked fine saturday night. I think I overfilled it a bit sunday morning
so it was taking forever to warm through and self pressurize. I'll
    persevere as colemans ain't cheap.

They're not cheap, but they do work very well and they get going very
quickly. I was very impressed with simplicity of your stove, and the
built in container / case it had. Although the flaming beacon and petrol
vapour wafting valve want a bit of work. heh..

Funnily enough shell actually provide this information here:

In other words optimax simply reduces the conditions where your anti
knock sensor changes your timing for you.

If you don't reckon your anti knock sensor is kicking in you aren't
    getting any benefit.

For some reason I though Octane = Calories and Optimax was 98 95ths
more powerful than bog standard petrol. Not so.

I hold that stove partially responsible for the way I felt on Sunday
    morning.

From memory, it's the percentage that's octane, as opposed to being
watered down with heptane, isn't it?

  18. Sort of - it's the percentage of octane in a napther/octane mix with
    the same anti-knock capability.

Don't think octane is a substance so much as a measurement.
