I'd much rather be in a glider than a powered aircraft. Still would
rather have my feet firmly on the ground though. Don't like flying.

I've been trying to find the one of the guy blowing up the inflatable
boat, a kid jumps on the boat and his head explodes.

The urge does pass though, usually when the weather starts getting cold.

Old glider pilot adage. You might crash, but you won't crash and burn.

    Also:
The 'blood' hit the lens too fast IMHO
    It was the wrong colour
and I *really* doubt people would have stood around saying 'Oh my god'[1]

I thought he probably could have hit the rotors TBH

[1] Although they were septics so 'Fucking hell, he's lost his cunting
    arms.' may be unlikely.

I'm not convinced that there would have been much blood, TBH. Might
have broken his hands badly though. Anyway, the blood would have been
spattered in the direction the rotor was moving, not at right angles
    to the camera.

Dunno about the resonance, but it did occur to me that two-bladers
might not need the lead-lag hinges for forward flight because both
blades would be either ahead or abeam the aircraft at the same time
and thus rising or falling more-or-less equally (R22s, if not all
two-bladers, use a teeter hinge) so both blades would be subject to
the same coriolis force at the same time. A multi-bladed rotor would
have blades rising and falling at different times and so some blades
would be trying to rotate slightly faster than others.

Hmmm, it wasn't really worth repeating. Sorry about that.

And he'd have needed to get his fingertips at least 10ft high before he got
    anywhere near the blades.

Indeedy. Although having thought about it. This flying lark isn't for
me. I knew this after visiting shorham airport to do part of my course
    there this year.

I think that leaves boats, riding, driving and trains... and walking.

Some trying to fly faster than the others! Who dreamed this fucking
machine up? They started with the premise "It'll never fly", and with
decades of work managed to get it to the point of "Well, mostly it
flies, but there's a few niggles. Nothing to worry about though".

I'm thinking twice about getting in a Dash-8 at this point.

As some wag[1] said "Helicopters are nothing more than a bunch of spare
parts flying in close formation". And the other "There are two types of
helicopter pilot, those who have crashed and those who're waiting to".

Heli pilots are usually quite depressive creatures, because even if they've
never encountered a problem, they know they will".

  18. Quite. Of course the depressing thing is that decades of effort was
spent in taking the silk purse of flying and turning out the pig's ear
    of helicoptering.

There's still nothing like a helicopter for fun though.

I'd rather have an hour in a heli than a week in a plank.

Aren't we in danger of getting back "on topic" here, as most of us would
agree that we would rather ride a bike for pleasure rather than drive a car,
even though (or even because) bikes are unstable, less aerodynamically
    efficient etc?
