I assumed Linger was talking about his MX bike which won't have an
ignition at all. In fact, it's probably got very little in the way of
    electrics.

No, most do have keys. Mine is an out and out competition enduro bike
    and is barely road legal.
Look on www.ktm.co.uk for an EXC300

    SWIM?

I was talking about my KTM, which is basically a MX bike with lights.
No keys, no frills, hard work on the road, but great fun off it.

Bearly road legal is then the MOT tester sucks in through his teeth and
scratches his head before writing you a ticket out.

I see. Is that where he takes that "extra" brown form from you?

Very small lights, number plate (legal but small), Cycling computer for a
    speedo.
knobbly tyres and no indicators or mirrors.

I have been in the same position trying to get my recently purchased
Firestorm insured, I was getting silly quotes until I got a Datatool
system 3 (£269 fitted)fitted along with Datatag and kept in a garage.
Now the quotes are just uncomfortable (£500). This is with 5 yrs NCB.

    try here

Er.. where exactly do you live then, or are you 22 or something as that to
me seems a bit high for someone with 5 yrs NCB and a garage!

They're probably only interested in Category 1, which will probably work
out at about 300 quid. When I was faced with the same problem recently
with the Zed I hunted around a bit and found a company who didn't care.
They're a little more expensive, so if I keep the bike for about 20 years
it would have worked out cheaper to fit the alarm.

It also seemed to be linked with class 1 business use: I couldn't find
anyone who'd give me that on the Zed for a reasonable price without a
    Category 1 alarm.
