Blow me sideways. I've always kept my insurance with good ol' Aunty
Carole, mainly because I'm a lazy sod and calling 'round is for
poofters...right? Wrong. Decided today to give a few companies a call.
Got quotes between 1000 and 422.

This must have been mentioned numerous times, but I'm still wondering:
how can there be so much difference. I mean difference of 100 quid or
    so...ok, but nearly 600?

Right, now to find someone gullible enough to give me his/her
creditcard as I haven't got one and my card (Visa Electron) is not
taken by H&R Insurance. Being the lazy sod, I also never applied for a
    creditcard, wish I had now....

  2. I phone CN three times in as many weeks for four wheeled insurance.

The first was way off, being something like £722 TPFT. After that I got
a quote from Direct line for £490 TPO. I changed my mind after this and
was going to go for a 'K' reg van so phoned CN again: £347 TPFT. I
accepted this, got the reference number and duly went and bought the
    van.

After one thing and another, the 'K' reg was out and it was back on for
the 'H' again. I phoned CN back and said the details were the same as
the last best quote but it was now a 'H' reg van and they said "Oh,
    that's £320.50".

    Result!

Hey!! Hi Spete! Happened to me too!! Just got my renewal from CN, and like
you, hate phoning round, but did it just in case. Found exactly the same
insurance firm but with another broker at a £42 saving!! Phoned CN back to see
if they would match the quote, and they just weren't interested!

I guess it was worth filling in those MCN on-line competitions, as the insurance
companies then write to you with their web addresses, and presto, result!

But not worth missing out on the additional roadside recovery that comes
with the CN policy, the one you'd pay upwards of 90 quid for if you were
to buy it seperately. A 42 quid saving doesn't make it worthwhile
changing if I were to lose that.

Staying with CN makes perfect sense to me, given the bike I ride and the
recovery thrown in. 162 quid is what I'm paying.

  6. but also worth noting that they cant/wont drop this from the policy
either. I chose to have a separate breakdown policy as I have more
vehicles than the bikes they cover.

I haven't bothered to try. I don't have any other breakdown cover for
the Honda, so I ought to I suppose.

Having said that, the closest any other company came was 150 quid more
expensive, and they wouldn't cover me on other people's bikes nor did
    they give breakdown cover.
