This year hopefully looks like it's gonna be better from the weather point
that the last few, so i plan to use the motorhome a lot more this year.

so i'm going to tow either the scoot or the transalp on a trailer behind the
motorhome (and when parked up we'll prolly do 150 - 200 miles a day, as
that's what we did when i towed the virago around england a few years ago,
so it's not just so i can tow the shitter tank to the dump station behind
    the bike like some think)

Going to get a ready built trailer this time, can't be arsed making one as i
always over engineer them and they end up heavy, i want a lightweight one i
can store on it's end, or shove it under the back of the motorhome when
    camping.

The other reason i want one made by a 'proper' trailer maker, is lots of
people have told me it's impossible to get insurance cover for a bike on a
home built trailer, i've never been fussed before, as the virago was just
cheap enough to chalk loosing it through a fuckwitted moment involving the
trailer down to experiance, can't do that with the transalp, and if it
happens with sams scooter i'll never get a shag off her again.

i was going to ask ebike about cover when on a trailer, but their site seems
to be down, i get 'service unavailable' all the time,

So instead i thought i'd bore you lot with my rambeling and utter shite.

Anyone know if you can get standalone insurance for a motorcycle when being
towed on a trailer? or of any insurers that can add it on or include it with
a bike policy as mine is due for renewal in may,
i know with ebike, a trailer towed by a bike is covered for 3rd party risks,
but not the cargo in/on it, so i'd imagine it's the same with the bike on a
    trailer towed by a car/motorhome.

I drag quite a lot of stuff, including bikes on a purpose-built trailer,
around the country. I always ask my /car/ insurer about cover, as the
bikes frequently aren't mine, so I don't know whether they're insured or
    not (in their own right).

Every car insurer has agreed to cover trailer and cargo, whether (up to)
three bikes or a load of other gear in the box body that I made to mount
onto the bike trailer. It takes the form of another 'endorsement' on
the insurance, just the same as pillion cover on a bike insurance
certificate, to a maximum of 10k.

If you do a lot of trailerage, you should tell your insurer anyway, just
in case it's the trailer that bounces into another vehicle or mows down
the line of nuns waiting to cross the road.

I've never asked my bike insurer as the trailer cover is tied to the
    towing vehicle.

cheers mate, i'll get onto the motorhome insurers again and ask to speak to
someone other than a sales droid to see if i can have the contents of the
trailer covered as an endorsment, i know the trailer is covered for 3rd
party risks whilst on tow (or no longer on tow due to something breaking)

i'm sure if the bike was on a rack on the back of the motorhome it'd be
covered under the external items cover which covers anything on or chained
to the thing (awnings, generators, even feckin chairs and picnic tables)

ebike have got back to me saying they have asked the underwriters about
cover whilst on a trailer, and will get back to me, but i imagine it will be
like you say, the towing vehicle's insurance should cover it (with an extra
    payment).

excelent, my bike insurance is due for renewal, and ebike are taking the
piss (giving me a renewal price 'with a renewal discount' thats more than
the price if i start a new policy with them.
