SO did an online quote with CN on my 955. She put down yesterday as her
test pass date (even though she hasn't done it yet), so obviously a
very new rider with zero bike NCB. Fully comp - 209 quid. WTF?

I have just today received my renewal.

£193.75 for an old git on an old gimmer's tourer with Advantage through
    Hastings Direct.

I shall have a quick gander online later to see if I can shave a bit
off that, but it's low enough for me to not really care and I'm only
doing it as a point of principal.

No & no, but can't see what point you're making. I was expecting it to
be at least five times that amount for a new rider on a 955cc bike.

    It might have a 955cc engine, but it's not exactly a scrote-magnet
    rocketship, is it?

And she might be a new rider but (while I haven't met the lass, unless
you've turned into Lozzo I can make a reasonable guess) she's not
    exactly a youngster.

Try changing the quote to suggest she's had a full licence for a couple
of years with matching NCB and see how much further it drops.

    That seems very expensive.

Bracknell is not exactly a low risk area in respect of insurance.

However, we shall see - I'm about to fire up confused.com...

ICBW but I didn't think 'no claims' was the same deal with bikes as cars
    - ie doesn't make a huge amount of difference.

AIUI it's more based on rider's age and scrotemagnetitness.

My guess if you've had lots of claims on bikes you probably would just
    get a 'declined to quote'?

It must be, I've never been overtaken when riding it on a twisty road!
Definitely not a scrote magnet though.
Tis true, she's 42. I still remain surprised though. It does rather
open up the possibilities of what would suit as a first time bike,
which is nice. She wants 'a red one', so I shall point her towards
    Brutales.

It's just jealousy that you can't pull younger burds.

60% off the gross premium is 60%, innit.
That's what the gross premium would be based on and its grossness
    should reflect those factors.

I guess it's just my Aunty-sold-out-Carole policy then, since that's all
I've had in a very long time. It doesn't show any NCB afaik.

OK - I've now just renewed with Motorcycle Direct, and saved £50 with
    better cover.

I couldn't get through to Hastings and that pissed me off, so they're
    not getting my business.

I went through this with my Saab recently. They couldn't tweak the premium
at all. But by the time I tried buying the same services and excess from the
others, the costs were not so different so I renewed. Endlesleigh looked
£150 cheaper to begin with but that closed right up with the extras added,
and I think they are cunts IIRC.

As I said, I tried to get through to Hastings to give them a chance,
and if they could have bettered their original quote, I'd probably have
    stayed.

However, 10 minutes on hold, followed by them eventually "answering"
the phone but all I could hear was chatter in the background, followed
by redialing and another 10 minutes on hold before I got through to
speaking to them, and I'd already followed a link on confused.com and
    taken out a cheaper quote.

    So **** 'em.
