Insurance wanted

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by GarlicMonster, Nov 8, 2003.

  1. Owing to a moment of intergalactic stupidity my 18yo son picked up the
    following convictions in August 2002
    IN10 - driving without Insurance
    CD10 - DC&A
    LC20 - No License
£100 fine and a total of 6 points ( BTW do points run from date of offence,
conviction or date of finally acqiring a license)

Oddly enough he's finding it a tad difficult to find someone to insure him
on a Gilera 50 that he's planning to buy.
I've tried all the usual suspects without any joy, the only quote so far
that is smaller than the total 3rd world debt is from Auntie Carol, who want
£430, (3rd party only), however this seems suspiciously cheap compared to
others - have a nasty feeling this phone quote might disappear when it comes
    to formalising the deal.

    Thoughts, suggestions, witticisms welcome
Anyone wishing to comment further on his stupidity need not apply.

    TIA

  3. He's going to need insurance one day and if (as I suspect) the convictions
run from the date of getting a license then that means he's stuck for the
    next 4 years

electric bikes are illegal on the public highway - we've checked !

Make him ride a bicycle for the next couple of years.
One of those nice electrically assisted ones should do, if he's lazy sod.

  5. Don't think anyone here will know him, but it's odd that several people know
of someone in a similar situation

    Well duh. :-/
Get them to confirm it in writing, or better, get them to send you the
proposal form, which should list all of the above endorsements. If it
does, hand over the dosh and count yourself lucky.

They are? I've seen a couple wizzing around my locality recently. And
the local bike shop sells a few of them.

    Tell him to start saving,
Then you have not checked hard enough. Electric bikes are perfectly
acceptable on the Queens Highway, provided they conform to all the
    necessary rules and regs.
