  1. My neighbour's XT600E-based supermotard was nicked a couple of months,
maybe three months, ago. Gutted, he was.

Anyway, NU, through Auntie Carole, asked him to send in the keys as
they'd assumed it was a total loss. They hadn't actually sent him the
money at this point. They were both still arguing over the value, I
    think.

Then he got a parking ticket for it, giving its location as a couple of
streets away from where it was stolen. So he went there, and lo and
behold, there it was. The villains had jemmied the ignition lock, and
cut the wires to it, but the immobiliser had done its duty and it hadn't
    started.

So he asked NU for the keys back. And it turned out they'd lost them.
    Gone. Completely. No idea, mate.

So NU paid for a new lockset, and a new immobiliser unit, and gave him
£100 for the hassle he'd been put to. He's a happy bunny.

Some scrote tried to nick my AJS Model 16 350 single when I lived in a
flat in Handsworth. I was walking to the cop shop to report it stolen
when I found it parked just round the corner. The simple anti-theft
device of a bath plug in the carb bell-mouth had done it's job. I bet
they got pretty lathered up trying to start it in the dark.

That's a result. It's a nice looking bike that your neighbour has.

When I was working in Jo'burg I parked my car in the city centre one
Saturday night so I could do my usual trick of get pissed then return
to the car and let someone else drive it home for me (1) after the
    pubs had all closed.

The problems started when I went to collect it and it wasn't there...

Of course I felt obligated to plant a few choice shots on the car park
attendant because it was a spot where you had to produce a ticket to
remove the car from the compound and obviously the **** had let his
mates nick my car. After venting my anger I wandered off to the police
station to report the car stolen and then headed to the station the
    get the train home.

Next day the usual suspects were sat in the bar at lunchtime
discussing the fact that the car had been stolen and it was obviously
an inside job when the one person who'd gone home early pointed out
that we'd got into the city centre late and I'd had to park the car in
a different site to normal. Oh dear.

A quick trip into the city proved this suspicion to be correct so
after going looking for the car park attendant so we could buy his
silence with a quick bribe (2) I went to the police station to report
the car miraculously found again. Oh dear.

The police seemed totally disinterested in the fact that the car had
been found and suggested I abandon it somewhere because if I was seen
driving it I had a good chance of being shot. It was dumped near a
black township (3) and luckily for me the police found it the next day
and recovered it for me for a nominal sum of money.

    (1) We usually played scissors/rock/paper to decide the driver.

    (2) He was there so I chucked him a few Rand and apologised. He didn't
look badly bruised so I suppose he was happy with the money.

    (3) Where else was I going to dump it?

Oi - the LE never fails to start on the second kick.
Once warm one kick is enough, the long manifold will have some mixture
    in it.
