True, but your kids may not thank you for it.

It's me being to subtle again, not a safety point. If people insist on
doing 50 in a 30 zone, then the riding / driving public aren't exactly
doing themselves any favours. By the time government dream up better ways
of forcing people to go slow and technology catches up, it'll be your kids
    who will get clobbered.

Why? I'm either missing a safety point or something subtle.

Ah, well **** 'em. They're causing me enough stress now so if I can
make their lives more difficult when they grow up that's good.

if it's GPS based, forget cracking it, wrap it in lead and ignore the
1kg it'll add to the bike weight.

    :)

Depends on the solution. There could be some pretty secure solutions. I
think that the fact it's cracked would be easily detected.

And, pulling in another thread, you could hang people for that; that'd
    learn 'em.

no signal = automatic 20mph limit imposed...

How many people do you see derestricting their 155mph limited cars?

FWIW, I reckon a voluntary top speed limit is the way to go, a la the
155mph one in cars. If the factories do it, then it's less likely to
    be written into law.

Having a bike that does 186mph is nice, but I haven't done it yet, and
    I don't think I will. Don't fancy 6 months inside.

    That'll work well in tunnels...

Well they _could_ fit special sensors in the tunnels...

but no, I can't see it hapenning either, as there's _loads_ of other
places that a GPS signal would not reach. High buildings, hills or
even trees are enough to block it.

I didn't think it went quite that fast in tests? Academic, anyway.
Do it in a furn country then, or just find a decent stretch of
    un-radared road.

FWIW I've only seen 175mph (on the clock - well, 280kph, actually).
The best thing about the extra speed available is that it was still
accelerating hard even then, and I had to back off the throttle to
    avoid going even quicker.

This was on the way up to the EOSM last year, on the newish bit of the
A50 south of Derby - four lanes, great visibilty and no traffic. It's
also not dead straight, which makes it even more interesting :) I'd
recommend it to any adrenaline junky.

    Unworkable.

One has to assume the equipment had to cope with tunnels and foreign
travel.. therefore very long tunnels with no signal.

I'd more worried about a limiter coming on round a corner, bike standing
up or going wide, and crashing.

The best bit is the perfectly cambered left hander where the slip road
    from M1 J24a goes onto the A50.

The new Alvaston Bypass that links up to Raynesway is equally excelent -
If they get around to extending it all the way to Pride Park then Derby
will have it's own street racing circuit...

  19. Foreign travel? So all these GPS satellites are only orbiting over the UK?

No, but the device will have to know the speed limits to set them, yes?

So if it's somewhere it doesn't know about, where does it find that
    data??

Answer: It doesn't so would have to disable itself until it was back in
    a known location.
