Insurance pay-out offer

Some weight, certainly. I got a few hundred more on a theft claim due to
a nice letter from the dealer confirming the condition of the bike. OK,
different to your situation, but if an Aprilia dealer says he could sell
one like yours for say £3,750, you should get an improved offer.

It all helps. Together with adverts and service history, it gives them a
reason to reconsider their valuation. If you just dispute it with no
evidence they will likely maintain their valuation.

    HTH,
    Martin.

Sir might like to read this(and point the insurance company in this direction):
    http://www.theiob.org.uk/digest/v/valuation_of_motor_vehicles.html
    To paraphrase:
"First, that market value is not the second-hand value of the car (unless the
policyholder was in fact intending to sell it before it was stolen or written
off) but what a replacement of similar age, condition and so on would cost.
Second, [See: VALUATION OF MOTOR VEHICLES para 2] there are different markets.
The appropriate one is not, as insurers often assume, the market for private
sale and purchase of vehicles, through newspaper ads and the like, unless there
is evidence to suggest that that is the market in which the policyholder intends
to buy a replacement. As a general rule, the appropriate market will be the
public one, so the policyholder gets what it would cost to replace the vehicle
    through a motor dealer."

Well worth if it if you can find those trade ads. When my car was written
off their first offer was dead on book price, at £2260, which was about
£500 more than I thought I'd get. After writing a nice letter with examples
from Autotrader and bills from money spent in the previous year - including
the 2 brand new tyres I'd had fitted the week previously, (ffs!), their
offer rose to £3K. Thought that was a result tbh, specially as it was £350
more than I paid for it 9 months previously.

When one of my MZs was written off (forks twisted in the yokes; bent
handlebars; broken gear lever - minor damage really) the insurer offered,
verbally initially, £275 and I could keep the bike.

    It's insured value was £275 - I took it.

  6. I can't remember if yours was a Futura or a Falco, anyway, these chaps have
    some:

'Twas a Flaco... they've got one: one year newer than mine,
significantly lower mileage, for GBP3999... don't know if that'll help
    or not, but thanks anyway.

    Hmmm?

Ah, yes... oh, it's an 'S' - that's the faired one, innit? I'm not that
    keen on faired Bandits.

  9. I may be up there over the weekend, I'll see what's in the showroom and get
some info for you if there are any Flacos.

Up where? What did I miss?
Excellent, thanks. Bear in mind that I'm mainly interested in old, high
    mileage, horrendously over-priced examples, OK?

  11. They seem to specialise in the latter

  12. When my 1998 R1 got stolen earlier this year I got a GBP3500 pay out -
probably about right, except that it had done 97,000 miles! So mileage
didnt seem to make much difference there.

****! That sounds like a damn good deal - didn't realise R1s held their
    value that well.

I think you were _exceedingly_ jammy with that you know.

My 02 15k GSX-R was last quouted (by a dealer) at £3600 - and aside from
normal W&T it was(!) in a tidy state.
