Insurance oddness

I'm horribly confused. Even more than normal.

Casting around for quotes for the Speed Triple, I was puzzled by the
huge variations, even more so when the same broker gave me different
answers a couple of weeks apart. I found out why, today.

The insurance companies have no data on the new model, so the brokers
have been instructed to base their quotes on "comparison criteria".
Carole Nash, for example, are quoting on the basis of direct
comparison with a Triumph Thunderbird Sport. *W*T*F*?

I'm at a loss - but what really concerns me is that if I buy one and
insure it on this basis, that when they get their act together the
premium will rocket (hah!) on renewal.

Don't tell me you are horribly confused, I don't believe it.
You don't seem normal to me.
    You seem frustrated.
    You're an arsehole.
    Format and reinstall.
    What sport do you play?
    Unheard of.
Normal people rarely are at a loss -.
    You haven't made quota.

Is there an insurance group rating for it yet? You could try to work
it off that, and get a couple of quotes for last year's model to see
what that's like. If all else fails, ask them?

I do suspect that if you go for a cheap quote this year you'll get
stung next year. I've not known the words "nice surprise" to ever
exist in the context of vehicle insurance.

You want the bike so have it!
Go with the cheap one and just shop around again next year. I've always found
Carole Nash's to be fairly negotiable.

"Come on, it can't have increased that much!"

    [snip]

why don't they use the data from the 2004 Speed Triple?

Just by the bike, sort the insurance later.

I've found doing speculative quotes for a renewal later this year that my
quote has doubled in the last year, despite one extra year NCB.
I am most confused by this.

On the postiive side, based on these quotes, a GSX-R1000/1300 would only
cost me £200 more than the V-Strom.

Something's a big messed up somewhere.
