Insurance daftness

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Oct 8, 2010.

  1. Just renewed my main modern bike policy with Devitt (£20 less than last
year - good!) and tried to get a quote on the CBR600 I'm buying
    tomorrow.

This would be updating the separate policy I hold with Devitt for the
GT550, which was something like £75 annually.

Old bike, so third party only. What could possibly go wrong?

Answer: because I may use it for commuting, the degree of security (a
    Spyball alarm) is deemed insufficient.

"But I'm not having theft cover anyway. I don't care if it gets stolen."

"That's what the computer says here. It won't quote."

    Wtf?

Risk factor, init(1). No alarm = you don't care if its nicked, so the
assumption is its more likely to get nicked, and potentially cause
aggravation for the ins co if it is (even if its just paperwork denying
liability if some scrote bins in into a bus queue, its still admin cost).

1: No, I'm not justifying it, just pointing out how their minds work.

Don't you still have a CN policy? I have all mine, modern and old, on
    the one policy.

No alarm on my Sprint, and it's insured for business use.

They could be worried about the third party liability still: eg if a thief
accidently drops it on his foot whilst trying to load it into a van.

  6. I have a CN classic policy but moved my modern bikepolicy toDevitt after
CN took the piss with their renewals. The maximum number of bikes you
can have on the Devitt policy is four. However, I've shopped around and
I can insure the CBR elsewhere for £70-90.
