Insurance conundrum for 18yr old.

    Right.

Mrs hast comp on her XV750 with me as a named rider. She can ride 'any
bike not owned by her' so therefore specifically anything else in our
fleet owned by daughter or I.

I am currently only insuring the CB 250 with Mrs as named rider (so
both comp (£117 / Norf Lundin remember [1]). I'm about to take her off
and go multi bike so I can also get the Yamaha Majesty 250 insured and
    on the road cheaply.

Daughter is insured TP only on her MZ 251 Saxon Tour with me as a
named rider (A1 clean licence, 1yrs NCB, jpg's available on receipt of
    email request).

But, we would like her to be able to also ride the CB250 (change) or
YP250 (Arb college with climbing gear) but can't find anyone willing /
able to offer her 'Any bike not owned by her' cover, even TP only and
if only my two specific bikes.

Now I could insure the YP250 separately and make her a named rider on
both that and the CB but the total premiums would be ridiculous
(considering she can only be riding one at a time).

So, any wrinkles I've missed pleased. Anyone in a similar situation
with their offspring and have a real (realistic for me) solution
    please?

    Cheers, T i m

    Crap. ;-(
    Ok thanks.

I may be wrong but thought all these 'risks' eventually came back to
someone sitting at a desk in the city who could give a thumbs up or
down? I guess in these spreadsheet / bean counter managed / computer
analysed days there's no room for case-by-case type stuff?

Ironically, in this instance CIHAGM is actually "Can I Take Our
Scooter To College" so the other bikes wouldn't even be unknowns (and
we would even provide reg nos etc).

The stupid thing is with TP only is doesn't matter to them which one
she writes off and they are all as much risk to a 3rd party in any
    case?

Do we think moving between 3 bikes means we are a higher risk?

right, to sort out (my) confusion - are you not the same Tim who lives
    in Ware?

    Nope.

I'm the Tim that lives round the corner from you and who offered
assistance with your KTM re: "a tale of two idiots".

<fx: goes off to check google archive -v- email>

I now see the source of my confusion. You offered to help on the
newsgroup, and almost simultaneously, Tim Crowther (who's the one in
Ware) emailed me to also offer assistance.

    Ah, np, and that's partly why I'm T i m. ;-)

But the offer of help still stands for whenever. Whilst I'm not the
most knowledgeable of folk here I'm reasonably practical, have a
pretty good range of tools (inc a lathe / MIG etc) and have very good
connections with the local bike shop (for those skills / tools I don't
    have) etc.

FWIW I have been rebuilding stuff all my life and the kitcar we made
22 years ago is still on the road and just went straight through
    another MOT. ;-)

p.s. Daughters tutor said she needed a new battery for her Honda Rebel
(that she had tried to start for the fist time this year) and I
offered to pick one up for her. I went to the bike shop, bought and
filled the battery, stuck it on the Optimate then met her at college
with it. I offered to test the 'dud' battery if she brought it along
and when I did it showed pretty good capacity (I have a battery
*capacity* tester). I asked her if her old battery span her bike over
ok and she said it did? I asked her if she had turned the fuel on and
she suddenly went all quiet. I reassured her that we can all have our
    moments. ;-)

    I'm easily confused.
OK - cool, ta. Where exactly in "North London" are you?
it's not the ****-awful white Scimitar SS1 I see driving around
Enfield all the time is it? That thing makes me angry just to know of
    its continuing existance.
    heh.

    M25, J25 (hence 3 miles from you)
Nope. This is a shed of a very practical Rickman Ranger that has cost
**** all to keep running. Always wanted to build summat so we sold the
Mrs 850 Mini and bought the kit. 3 months of mainly evenings and
weekends later and it was done (and in the back garden and not under
cover). She really enjoyed the whole trip (first time doing anything
like that for her) and as a treat one weekend I let her take the head
off and grind all the valves in. She even changed the water pump
whilst waiting for me to go out there and help / supervise (I was
watching Rally cross on the telly). ;-)
Hehe. I wonder if they think the same of you on yer bike? ;-)Cheers, T i m

    So far you are right.

I've rung a few of the companies who advertised themselves as
    'specialist' and it seems she would;

Have to be at least 19.

Be put on my two bikes as a named rider.

We had previously had the 'must be over 250cc' thing but that wasn't
    mentioned today.

If it's 'over 351' and to insure said would still be less than
including her on my policies then as long as it's under 33hp and cheap
it could still be an option (I've given up trying to bring logic and
    common sense to insurance).

Oh no, T i m's kit car makes the SS1 look like an object of beauty.

Luckily, beauty is in the eye of the beholder Steve (and I'm sure your
    Mum still loves you). ;-)

Yeah and you can thank the cunts who buy 2CV's simply for insurance
purposes, but then buy a Scoobie or Evo stylee car, register it to someone
else (their grand-dad) but obviously drive it themselves. All very nice 'til
they plough into some **** and **** off.

That effectively killed off CIHAGM cover for yoofs.

Ah, that's what happened was it (as you say, cunts).
And it really seems no one is either interested or able to stick their
neck out and consider a particular case (like us where they are all
low value, low performance, 250cc runabouts), no mater what the
    premium?

So have we really lost the concept of personal or tailored service
    these days?

Funny though, I reckon much of this stuff is cyclic.

My RT was insured through the AA and then they pulled out of bike
insurance and I was dumped on CN. A few years later and AA are back in
it again. Similar I believe with Kawasaki's 'K-Care'

It reckon only takes one Co (especially in these CC times) to take a
bit of a gamble (say with CIHAGM) and I reckon it could come back
    (maybe with some tighter constraints).
