It's that time of year. Cheapest quote is 142 with HR for all bikes, but no breakdown cover. CN/eBike are both around 364 with European breakdown cover. I've never had separate breakdown cover for bikes before, so how much will it be for European cover for 2 bikes & UK only cover for the 3rd (not worried about covering the Fantic), & who do I call? -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250
Erm who are HR? I need to get a new group policy arranged. Has insewrance gone up across the board this year?

All of the personal cover policies I've seen are for the UK only. If you extend the cover for Europe then that only applies to one vehicle. My suggestion is get UK personal cover which will cover you in any vehicle whether you own it or not. About £100 if you want the top level of cover. Then, assuming you only take 1 vehicle to Europe at a time, get a £59 policy with Europ Assist from quotelinedirect. When you take a different vehicle just log onto the website and change the cover over. This is free as you print off your own documents. I've flipped this cover from car to bike in the past. You'll need to make 2 trips to Europe in the year to make buying this annual policy worthwhile. CN's cover does not appear that expensive now. If you really want to save cash then just buy the £59 policy and log on every time you want to use a different vehicle. I'm sure they won't mind...
The guys from Practical Performance car have suggested the ADAC (German equivalent of the RAC) a few times. Their Europe-wide cover is pretty cheap but as someone on the Porsche forum I read pointed out, they have a E200 limit for recovery charges per breakdown. Shouldn't be a problem you'd think but the AA (their UK partner) have an 'interesting' way to charge them which AFAIR turned this chap's 80 mile recovery into a 280 mile journey and cost him another 150 quid on top.
I can thoroughly recommend Carole Nash's European recovery. Smart car joking aside - they picked up the Guzzi from the side of the autobahn, gave me a series of options and I chose to go the hire car route. I wish I'd mentioned a Smart car wouldn't be big enough for the luggage I had on the bike and it would be slower that the Guzzi but I hadn't thought I was going to get one of those. I had the car for the time I was away, they reimbursed me any additional costs (hire car in the UK, trains and various taxis - including one of ?60!). Guzzi reappeared at my house two days after I did.

The issue with the K100 is that it's old enough to be on a classic bike policy and it might be worth having a classic bike policy on the go so if I feel like it I can possibly add another old snotter to it.
My eBike policy doesn't run out 'til midnight Monday, so I'm still procrastinating at the mo. -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250
I'd mostly agree. Apart from their 4 breakdowns per year maximum (or was it six? Can't remember). That said, it's no good if you occasionally take vehicles abroad that you don't insure via CN for various reasons (like the premium they want to see for starters).
