Insurance - 29 is the new 25

Well, I've been looking at purchasing an example of a certain fine
British motorcycle, and of course been looking into the insurance side
    of things.

After phoning, "ooh, we're not sure about that", encouraging online
quotes (20 quid more than my current policy) I've been looking into how
much to change my current policy.

Today, phoning to enquire for the 2nd time (first time they called me
back I missed the call) I was told "you're being declined because you're
not over 29. They won't insure you on that motorcycle unless you're
29". As the online quoting system would insure me it's been referred
    "upstairs" again.

    <huff>
I thought all my (insurance) troubles would be over once I hit 25. I'm
not even near it yet and they're moving the bar.
    </huff>

    That's it - whine over.

It's always been 25 for cars, 29 for bikes as I recall.

    That's a bit arse innit :(

Whilst we're whinging, having recently got some quotes for a fine
Japanese motorcyle of considerable more size than my current, I asked
whether my fully comp policy (Highway thru H and R) covered me for other
bikes. I was already sure it didn't, but thought I'd check. I was right,
    it doesn't.

What I was surprised at, was that it wasn't available as an option, at
any expense. And apparently, according to the girly at H and R, it's
quite unusual to find a fully comp bike policy that covers you for
anything other than the insured/declared bike.

So beware when CIHAGM'ing that you might not be covered.

I've found that by default it's not covered, but on asking, it is added for
no extra cost. My TPFT policy covers me to ride other bikes.

Oh, I may have read your post wrong. You mean that you don't get *comp*
cover on someone else's bike? That's always been the case with cars and
bikes to my knowledge. How can they possibly assess the risk?

WTF are you trying to insure?

I've stopped being 'declined' by most insurers, they just spit out silly
    numbers - that's at 25 and 1 years NCB.

  6. No, I mean that I don't get *any* cover to CIHAGM.

  7. All my policies have covered me for other bikes, but third party
only, even though my bike is fully comp.

It might be my age, though (>40).

The Equity Red star policy I have automatically covered me for 3rd party
    riding of other motorcycles.

It also doesn't mention anything about not carrying pillions (as commented
on here a few days ago).

Very strange policy in that it also seems to be unlimited mileage, but hey
    I'm not complaining.

she was talking shite. Even my current TPF&T policy covers me TPO on
    any other bike.

  10. But they will sometimes exclude it without telling you. Best to check the
policy just in case. I've also found they will exclude travel to and from
work without mentioning it. However, adding it usually costs nothing.

I've just tried some online quotes to check if I can get better than my
renewal price with H&R of 376ukp fully comp.

The best quote was over 100ukp more and some of the quotes are up in
the 900ukp bracket! I'm 39 and have > 9 years no claims, FFS.

I don't think my Carole Nash bike policy does, but my CIS car insurance
    covers me for bikes.

  13. it depends on who does the policy and the size of bike being insured
(IIRC it has to be above 350cc).

Similar thing about adding other bikes onto a policy. Some places do
ones that will only ever cover one bike.

Me too. Cars and bikes. When I was 17 it was 21, when I was 21 it was
    25, when I was 25 it became 30. Cunts.

It must be an age/lack of points/full no claim thing because it don't

  16. 25, full licence since 18, 3pts, 1 accident, 3 and a bit years NCB.

Perhaps it's just H & R or Highway. Either way, given that combination
of broker/insurer repeatedly give me a substantially better quote than
others, I'm a bit stuck with it.

Although if I get a bandit, I'll definitely shop around again next renewal.

Jeeze Chris, what on earth are you doing? I've never been declined
for insurance. You must have a few years NCB by now? With my 3 and
being 26 and 363 days, I can insure the Thou fully comp for 800
quid[1]. SVs are pennies. It is garaged isn't it? That and Datatag
seem to make all the difference, alarms less so.

Yeah, my policy through H&R also makes no mention of riding or driving
    other vehicles.

Just as well the tpft insurance on my ShiteOldHondaCivic covers me on
any other car or bike :)

Still get declined quite a bit even on my current B12 (had it 2 years now)
especially when looking at R1's GSXRs and Blades, funny that isn't it.

By the way 23, 6yrs NCB. My favouret is "Oh thats because its such a big
bike for some one so young"
