Does anyone know what qualifications etc you would need to become a bike
    instructor in the UK?

    This is not strictly true.

Providing you've been downtrained and assessed by an approved Cardington
Assessed instructor at a Cardington Assessed training body you can
conduct a complete CBT including the road ride. You are also certified
to fill out the CBT certificate.

Then may I just ask how the hell you get through the day without having a
nervous breakdown, especially doing CBT's or are there worse areas of
    tuition?

Hats of to you chaps and chapesses, I wouldn't last the day.

Not many schools give their instructors Pan Euros. CB500s c/w top boxes tend
to be the de facto instructor bike.

I only do odd Saturdays these days - too much worry! No, you just get
used to it, and soon realise that the learners have a strong sense of
    self preservation.

I had a punk with a ponytail, tattooed neck, and hand painted leathers

Ooh, no, you want a fully-qualified pal on his brand new (black)
Hornet 900, who joins in on the practice u-turns coz he loves his new
bike so much, and would prolly join in on the practice
stoppies/emergency stop if he didn't have to be stood by the side of
the road waving at you. And chats up all the birds he's 'instructing'
(but not me coz he used to be will's housemate and kows what I'm like
pissed in the middle of the night).

Or you want his sexy mate (on a erm, black bike, I have no idea what
it was...) whose practice stops are just long enough for him to roll
and smoke a fag before setting off again ;o)

    *thinks*

CBT's are probably the worse, especially when you take new riders on the
road and their minds go blank....on a roundabout.
    Cheers.
