220K wouldn't get you much of a flat.

Houses are stupid money, mind. I'm looking to move at the moment, and
I've not seen anything I like for much less than 1/2 a million.

Yes, but Ben lives in somewhere that isn't London.

I was therefore surprised that a flat goes for that sort of money.

Obviously I'm living a sheltered life.

Yes, I know, though I don't know whereabouts.
House prices have gone mad almost everywhere. One of my team has a 3
bedroom house outside York, which has been valued at 450K.
    I think so, yes.

    I do.
You try finding a nice 3 bed semi/detached round here for that or near
    to it...

It's a good size. 2 bedroom, large living room and large kitchen.
Does the job but we want a house now.

Only reason it's under 250k is because it's 25 years old. New ones
down the road that are smaller are hitting the 300k mark.

I've no grounds to start critizing you, as my R65 has been sat,
broken, in the garage for about 3 years.

I fixed the SZR, got it MOT'd, rode it 20 miles then realised there was
still a slight oil leak that would take maybe 2 or 3 hours and 4 bolts
to fix...... That was almost 2 years ago.

that is pretty slack - at least the R65 needs a new clutch, the carbs
rebuilding, etc. etc. Pretty much the only thing wrong with it that I
could fix myself is replacing the snapped gear change linkage[1].

[1] though I did bodge this with a bits of thick coathanger wire,
which worked for a while, but was more useful for up-changes than
    down-changes.

  10. I think I'll build one. I've a cunning plan of how to incorporate a
    six-car garage.

If it's so easily repairable, why don't you repair it?

Have you still got that? I assumed you got shot of it.

Yeah, still got it, and once I do the thing with the new bolts it'll be
pretty much as good as new.

But my requirements now are a bit different to when I bought it, so
it'll go to funding a litre sportsbike of some kind when I do eventually
    get rid.

  14. Basement parking?

Alternatively, house on 1st floor and ground floor parking.

I'd love to, but around here, there isn't the space.

  17. *ding* An attached garage of 3 wide by 2 deep, with some other shit
on the ground floor. Then just build over the top, and with a
converted attic space, should get equiv. floor area as a normal house
    with the same footprint.

given that I'm trying to get bikes /out/ of my garage, you're
    absolutely right.
