Indeed - naked bikes are thinly-disguised fitness machines. Since I
bought my Hornet I have become so buff that three lanes of traffic can
drive down each of my biceps.

  4. When I had my Bonneville I found it simpler and easier to lie flat on
the tank (just like my RX125 days). Mind you the Bonnie was only good
    for 180kph.

Wide open question innit ? Big heavy comfy naked bike, oodles of power
and torque, make a good touring bike or for someone who wants a weekend
bike for day trips (ie it wouldn't be my choice for commuting on in
Sydney, but I can also think of worse bikes for the job). Good two up.
Competent and capable but cornering clearance a little ordinary,
however the handling will have you easing up on chasing that R6 before
you grind away too much metal. Fairly softly sprung so isn't too phased
by crappy roads unless you're trying to chase sportsbikes.

Good all rounder,on the softer side, does what it does quite well.

    Comparison to competition
    - FZ1 is sportier, heaps more ground clearance and lighter but less
    comfy and less torque
    - Bandit is a bit lighter, a touch less HP, but very similar
    - ZXR12 - sportier, less power better handling
    - CB1300 - haven't ridden it. Probably very similar.

I'd consider Monster,Raptor, Tuono, TnT,speed triple etc to be a
slightly different class, but if you wish to compare, they're all
considerably lighter and sportier with less HP, less comfort and better
    handling and power to weight.

Yammie equivalent is probably more the XJR 13

on the GSX, acquaintance has one - buckets of torque, sits on 110-120 at
2,850 rpm or something stupid like that - you could ride it all day

    The GSX1400 is great, I've got a k4 model, only done 10 000k's so
haven't really even broken it in yet. It's a great bike with heaps of
torque, looks good and goes hard, pretty decent front brakes and fully
    adjustable suspension at both ends.

If I was being picky, the seat isn't the best in the business, but then
my previous bike, GS1000s, had 4 inches of foam and was uber comfy.
I've thrown a set of Givi panniers on and once I get the seat
    re-worked, it'll be a superb mileage eater 2 up. I still haven't found
the best tyres for it, but hoping that a set of Michelin pilot sports
might do the trick. I also added a dicky little Givi screen to get the
wind off, not the prettiest, but works well.

I wanted something to replace the GS1000s, wanted a naked, but in the
smaller cc sizes, there really wasn't anything interesting. The Yamaha
XJR1300 is very similar to ride, has a slight comfier seat but was
$1500 more to buy at the time.

  12. What's with all this "retro" talk? Doesn't look retro to me, hasn't even got
drum brakes! Or does retro mean naked/half naked with a solid frame these
    days?

I own a XJR1200 it's a great bike plenty of torque down low and a lot of
    fun to ride.
The only thing is trying to hang on at high speeds as there is no plastic
to cut through the air, as much as I love this bike my next one will have be
one of the sports tourers ie: ZZR,VFR or Sprint ST

Read a UK mag the other day where all 4 testers preferred the Kawasaki
Lawson replica one (ZRX1200? Something like that) over the GSX1400,
    CB1300, and Yammie 1200.

I saw one of the Kwaka ones down at the Netrider dyno day on Satdy,
those things look awesome, the paint job is a killer.
