Infinity closing down sale

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Dec 30, 2006.

  1. So my biking neighbour suggests we pop down there this afternoon, to see
if there's any bargains going, as the doors of the Purley shop close for
    good at 6pm.

I needed a new visor for my lid. Wound up with a brand new... Akashi,
Arashi, Asahi? Whatever... helmet for the price of a visor - £30.
Probably cheap crap, but it fits perfectly, and £30 is more than my head
    is worth.

Spotted a Vemar Bluetooth helmet marked down from £350 to £50. Snaffled
that as well, but at 55cm it's proved to be fractionally too small for
The Doctor, so it's going on Ebay.

Is it just that shop affected or are they closing others too?

  3. This one is "relocating" to Cardiff (so closing). AFAIK the others are
    unaffected.

I'm fairly sure that M&P and Busters and On Two Wheels are all part of
    the same thing.
IIRC Infinity rose, phoenix-like, from the ashes of the
Carnells/Motorcycle City collapse. No surprise they are now
downsizing. Many larger sellers of clothing and accessories are
having problems right now; I could name some but I won't. It's not a
great time of year anyway, but the market is pretty well depressed ATM
and not likely to improve significantly anytime soon.

    DR says...
They are, and it's On2wheels, btw.
Infinty had been around before the Carnells/Riossi/Motorcycle City
collapse, they bought some of the shops up and renamed them.

  6. It's not going to be a good year for the trade, agreed. The writing's
been on the wall for long enough, mind.

    I ought to know really, shouldn't I?
Ah. I only discovered the joys of motorcycling about a couple of
years before Carnells went tits-up. To live is to learn...

Thing is, I think the manufacturers have to take much of the blame.

On the rare occasions I buy bike mags. these days, they're full of some
minor tweak to the latest litre bikes and 600 sports bikes.

I've not seen anything that's really inspired me to buy for a couple of
years - I'd be in the market to trade the VFR for something else next
year, but there's *nothing* out there that's worth spending money on,
IMHO. If only Honda would make a VFR1000, I'd be very tempted.

Obviously your idea of a desirable bike doesn't tie in with either the
majority of other bikers or the manufacturers.

Ownership of an Alfa hints at the same thing with cars.

When we examine the evidence and find that not only do you own a VFR
and an Alfa but you live in Wales it's case closed, you're a confirmed
    fuckwit.

I score 2/3 on that scale - as I don't live in Wales.

Agreed. Clothing, as well as most other motorcycle accessories are
vastly and grossly over-priced, it's beyond comprehension.
I'm sure this is a feedline but I'll let the others deal with it. I know
what they';re going to say but can articulate it better than I ever
    could! ;-)

Not to worry, there's only about 8 1/2 hours of it left.

Maybe next year will be a good one?[/QUOTE]

That's all they seem to fucking sell around here as well! If it
doesn't look like a Harley Davidson, it's not a motorcycle,
apparently. They're even selling Harley look-alike BICYCLES for
    crying out loud!

Although there is that guy with the Ural sidecar outfit and
the dog with goggles. He gets a wave whenever I see him.
And the two BMW R1150GS riders, but they're yuppy posers
who never get their bikes dirty.

This island living isn't all it's racked up to be. Now, where
did I put the last of that lamb and the 2003 Barley Wine?
