That's what I thought she meant, but errr. that's easy.. that's a known
number, surely the real data can be 'seasonally adjusted' to map them
against the population trends quite easily.

The bike rego figers only include road registed bikes When I did the study
on it there were about 377000 bikes registed for the road. they beleved
    there
were an equal amount for rec use. That figure would be close to 400000 now.

Well, it's why raw numbers of crashes per age group are no good.

And what does "seasonally adjusted" mean when it comes to behaviour?

We already know that bods of 55 now are not behaving like 55yos did in
    the 1960s for example.

Hmmm, several of these are still in shrink wrap - can you get me some
bludge ones ? I can still take them back...

;-P Well yeah, but I'm doing a full time study load while holding down
    a full time job.

Mmm, kinda sort maybe not really....

"Seasonal adjustment" (or more accurately the use of dummy variables)
allows you to pull out a spike or unusual set of data so you can
either: analyse the trend ignoring the spike, or allow the spike to be
a describing variable, or to break the data into what amounts to N
different sets of data (where N is the number of spikes ie icecream
sales might have N =2 for summer/winter seasons)

So no, given the quantity of baby boomers is part of the data not an
aberration (well some of them are very aberrent but that's beside the
point), you can't really dummy them out if you're seeking to describe
what the factors are that change the probability a generic motorcycle
rider will be killed. It's probably more useful to analyse
contributing factors by age group - you'll get a better analysis I
suspect as you'll be holding a couple of the variables relatively
constant or more constant (ie the possibility of a heart attack while
riding is going to be higher in the over 55 age group, but is going to
disappear into the noise in an overall assessment of risk for all
    riders).

Bugger, hey ! You'll have plenty of time to go to the pub then. Hmm...
I still haven't organised that ride either have I ?
Piffle! Download it off the internet - there'll be someone in India
who'll sell you a thesis for a couple of hundred ;-P

Does this take into account the moving demographic?

i.e. someone who is in one age group in 1990 is going to be 1 or maybe even
    2 groups higher in 2006...

A person who died in 1990 is unlikely to die again in later years and
therefore skew the statistics upwards. :)

AFAIR every time I've been to uni I've had to sign some sort of
agreement has included a clause that any work submitted for assessment
became the property of the university. I presume that is still part of
current student/institution agreements? Surely that would make any
clause you added meaningless and worthless, because whatever works of
yours that the university submitted would be their own property, not
yours? Maybe someone studying law can comment. :)

Much as it amazes me to say it ... Nev is right. As a consumer JL, you
can always go down the road and try at the next degree shop, but the
response wil be the same. Ah, the benefits of choice under capitalism ...

[As an aside, there was a forerunner of TurnItIn, which provided much
the same service. After a few years they spun off a side business ...
selling assignments! FWIW any software which flags "twenty four hours a
day, seven days a week" as evidence of serious plagiarism needs work!]
