Inadequate charging system output

  1. This is kind of a strange problem. The bike is a 1983 Yamaha DT80
enduro, came from the factory with street legal equipment. However, the
previous owner stripped it all off in favor of a "pit bike". When I
bought it, I rigged up my own system and lighting equipment...and it
    seems almost there.

    However!

There are two outputs from the magneto that feed into the bike's
lighting system (I think there are two others that feed only into the
ignition system). As of now, only one is hooked up to the bike's
lighting, the other is not connected at all. I have the electrical
diagram but I still cannot figure out what the other one is for.

Do most magneto systems have two output leads? Will using one provide
sufficient power? I've tried hooking them together and I get a spark and
dimmed lights. Are the AC pulses out of phase with each other? Can I
    make them in-phase?

The only reason I ask is that the voltage drops too low when the
headlight is on for the flasher to operate. I'm using a 55w headlight
bulb (overwattage, I know, impossible to find 25w 6v H3 bulbs) and the
voltage drops to around 4.8-5.0v. Has 6.00v flat when lights are off.

    Thanx

  2. well, here's the thing i'm confused about - The headlight produces about
a 1 volt drop, even with a fully charged battery. Does this mean there's
a problem with my wiring or rectifier? Right now its a single diode
rectifier, would switching to a bridge rectifier help?

  3. I might have to try that, thanks for the suggestion.

There's no way to "combine" the coils into the same circuit for more juice?
