In praise of old tiddlers

Which bits of the 10R came from an earlier model?

To me the classic parts bin specials were early Bandits but I suppose
it all depends on how closely you look at the bike.

What parts from my bike were and who mentioned earlier models anyway?

Parts bin special to me means it shares a number of components with
other models in the range. Your ZX10R shares a few bits with ZX6Rs and
a few other bikes, just like mine does.

Obviously your idea of a parts bin special is different to mine.

I'd take it to mean that the bits are nicked off older bikes that
weren't used because it was out of date and in particular engines,
exhausts, frames, suspension, wheels and brakes.

I don't think many of those parts on a ZX10R were nicked from the bin
but you know enough about Kawasakis to be able to correct me. Go for
    it...

Talking of which, it appears that the Street Triple has exactly the
same front end as a 600 Hornet.

Our interpretation of the term 'parts bin special' differs. Obviously,
Andy, you have what is considered to be a vastly superior bike to mine
which was the first of its line and had all new parts that weren't
shared with anything else and need your fragile ego massaging so you
    can feel good about it.

Go ahead old man, fill your boots, it's not like I give a **** really
because I know you're just up for a wind up.

So what's your definition of a parts bin special if it isn't something
made up of bits out of the bin? I'm genuinely curious because you
    said:

"When people say parts bin special it's bit like just about every
Kawasaki or Suzuki made really, even the ZX10R and Gixer thou."

and I questioned which bits of a ZX10R are out of the parts bin but
while we're at it you can decide which bits of a GSXR1000 fit the bill
    as well.
I'm not on a wind up and I certainly don't think my smacked around
Kawasaki, my flawed Yamaha or my off the road BMW are vastly superior
to anything so if you want to start accusing me of having a fragile
ego or stating the obvious about me being old you're not going to
    score many points.

    Parts bin, not rubbish bin.

Parts bin being a shared parts bin, where a number of major parts are
common to a wide number of bikes. Your ZX10R shares wheels, forks,
brakes mudguard and a few other bits like the clocks and electrics with
ZX6R and a few other bikes. Same with the Gixer thou, in that it shares
some bodywork, wheels, brakes, electrics etc with other models.

You cited the early Bandit as being the classic parts bin special, it
only shared wheels, engine, brakes and forks with any other model,
virtually every other component was Bandit specific and even the engine
had different cams to the GSX600F from which it took its engine. Even
then, the GSX600F was still a production model for a few years after
the Bandit was in production so it was hardly 'parts bin' by your
definition. The 1200 shared almost nothing with any other bike except
    wheels, brakes and crankcases/covers.

Slag my Versys all you like, I really couldn't give a ****, I know it's
as ugly as sin but it's a bike I can ride without crashing in a car
park because it's too powerful for me to handle and it hasn't had the
electrics fail on a number of occasions right when I've really needed
it to be up and running reliably :) It does me well and cost three
parts of **** all to buy new.

For something you don't give a **** about you're very sensitive about
it. All this little sub-thread is because I said I hadn't realised a
Versys was a parts bin special (my definition, not yours) and you've
just got right out of your pram.

Well ok, if you think me fucking up a large chunk of my holiday (and
Adies because she missed out on going to Italy) is funny that's up to
you but it's firming up my theory that you're a very sad little ****.

yeah, it was a bit brutal but if anyone wants to take a cheap shot
about someone else crashing then they can **** right off. I'm a pretty
easy going kind of person but when it goes from being told I need my
'fragile ego massaging' to telling me I can't ride my bike because I
lobbed it in a car park it's time for the kind of reply I'd make if it
was said in person to me. Smileys don't fucking count btw.

Well as we weren't even discussing my Versys in the first place - until
you brought it up - but Steve Fitzgerald's new Yamaha, I thought it
only right to get into the ukrm swing of things and take the piss as
everyone else seemed to do without you getting out of your particular
pram. If you'd followed the thread from the start you'd have realised
what we were actually discussing, and my bike had nothing to do with it
until you chipped in about the Versys being a parts bin special.

I'm a pretty easy going person too, but there's only so much slagging
off of my choice of bike I'll take before I take a swipe back. I bought
it for a good reason, I can't handle the riding position of sportsbikes
nor ride powerful bikes any more since I had the mini-stroke which
fucked up my eye muscles and coordination in my left arm/hand. It was a
cheap way of getting me on a new bike that I can ride to my heart's
content and it does me bloody well. Excuse me if I get defensive, but I
can only take so much before I become a proper ****

I've come to the conclusion that you're just a low budget version of
Jack H and not really worth the effort any more.

But it's obviously ok for you to take the piss freely whenever you feel
like it and no-one's allowed to make a come-back... nice, not.

  15. But, but, that would mean Bonwick is a ****.
    No news there, then.

    OK.

If I've caused any offence to Andy I'd like to publicly apologise.
Recently I've been rather ratty due to the amount of pain I'm in.
Mistakenly thinking he was deliberately taking the piss out of me, and
why I ride what I do, I reacted disproportionately. Sorry.
