My family is still recovering from the over indulgence of the wonderful
Thanksgiving Day celebration at my house.. In spite of all the urgings to
take as much of that magnificent meal home with them.. there is still a full
refrigerator of leftovers.. The counter tops have leftover pie and cake that
remains uneaten.. The mexican is trying to come up with ingenious recipes
that will make the ham and turkey just a little bit different.. tamales and
    such.

Friday was amongst us and the usual news programs were dominated by the
optimistic and rosy predictions of record sales .. Crowds of idiots have
    been
featured as they rushed to the retailers pits of over indulgence.. Promises
    of
extravagant savings to the consumers, have resulted in wall to wall parking
lots and hordes of morons snatching and grabbing.. Fools are falling all
    over
the floors of the glitzy retail establishments, while all the other
    stampeding
    cattle.. run roughshod over them.

Is this what America is all about.. The media is calling it "Black Friday"..
That is an appropriate title for this day.. It is a Black Day indeed, when
America demonstrates to the world.. on public television.. what we are all
about.. Struggling with each other to catch the over priced and shoddy items
which are nothing more than marketing gadgets to increase profit..

I'm sadly distressed to watch the degeneracy that has overwhelmned us..

Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas.. almost a month away..

IN part said)- ''The media is calling it "Black Friday".. That is an
appropriate title for this day.. It is a Black Day''

Why it became known as ''Black Friday'' is beyond me-(?)-
I remember a ''Black Monday'', it was one of the worst one-day-crash of
the Dow Jones, on/or around 1980 (not sure when?)
The biggest shopping day after TG, is a fun day, a tradional kick off of
getting out there and hearing Bing Crosby singing ''White Christmas'',
and watchin' the hustle bustleing of the crowds. Why call it a Black
    day-?_
Maybe it ought to be Re'named ''Green Friday''.
My gals were out there by 3AM. To them it is a tradition, like many deer
hunters going back to the woods, after the TG Meal.
Oh yeah and watching the CowBoys.

In the context of the retail industry "Black Friday" is not a negative
term. It refers to the time of the year the industry has serviced
their fixed cost and are moving into "The Black" or "Profit". Similar
to "Tax Freedom Day" for us hourly paid workers. I recall the term
being used as far back as the late seventies. It's nothing new.

Don't blame the success of Holiday Shopping Marketing on the industry
or the media, blame it on the millions of fools who buy into it and
line up for hours to save a nickel. The industry is just catering to
the basic greed inherent in the vast majority of the buying public.

Thanksgiving used to be one week later than it is now. This was until
the retailers needed more time to make more money for Christmas.
Thanksgiving was moved a week for that reason.

BTW, you almost had to buy me that steak dinner! I had a conflict of
schedules and had to have someone else go to Calgary this past week
instead of me. From what I understood though, it was COLD! I ended up
in Alabama. So, it was a trade-off. The guy who went to Calgary in my
place said he would've taken my tornados to his cold any day. I didn't
tell him about your steak dinner, but I would've taken the cold to the
tornado (mostly because of the steak dinner you would've bought me
<g>). One woman died just right in front of where I was when a 18
wheeler tanker was flipped into her car.

I'll be going to Ottawa in the next month or so if we can get it
arranged. It was supposed to have been the end of September, but was
    cancelled at the last minute.

Sad.. Sad .. and more Sad.. Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday for all
American families to come together .. Have you forgotten ? It is a day that
is set aside for us to give our thanks for living in a nation that is so
    well
    blessed..

Christmas is a day to reflect that an icon of Christianity walked this earth
and it is a celebration of his birth.. hmmm.. even though, none of us are
    real
sure of that exact birth date..

The traditions and symbolisms of those two days have been perverted by
obscene commercialism.. The goofiness of the Americans who've been a
party to contributing to this perversion, is obvious.. All of the consumers
who rushed to the malls at three o'clock in the morning.. All.. who stayed
up all night and crowded the parking lots to scramble amongst themselves
to participate in such idiocy.. have completely forgotten the meanings of
the two most sacred of holidays in our year..

The commercial substitutions which are so enthusiastically embraced by
our people, are nothing more than a demonstration of our national
    degeneration.

You can walk into any store around my house at any time of the year,
look around and you can call it Black Monday, Black Tuesday, Black
Wednesday, Black Thursday, Black Friday, Black Saturday or Black
Sunday..I think I need to move.

Too bad about the steak dinner. I am always looking for an excuse to
enjoy a little Alberta Beef. Next time.

And yes it is cold here. Today I woke up to -25c with 100mm of fresh
snow on the ground. Now last Saturday the temps were +15c and I was
riding the bike. That's life in the Foothills of the Rockies.

Well hell.. no need do all that.. lol.. I try to limit my visits to the
    Malls, to
once every six months.. Then it is directly to the store that I am going to
    buy
a specific item from.. I try to make that visit on a day during the week
    when
everyone should be at work or at school.. That kinda narrows it down a
    little bit..

I dont know if you were talking directly to me, but I will give you my
thoughts along the lines of your nice sentiments above.
Of course, Christmas is very commercial.
But, it dont stop me from enjoying Santa Clause, and all the rukus that
    goes with it.
I have always thourghly enjyoed Christmas, It is a big deal in my
    Fam-a-lee.
Thanksgiving has been on the 4th Thursday of the month for ever.
We take time out to be thankful. Thankful for our health, the good
food, and the new members in the fam-a-lee.
But, the next day, all hail' breaks loose, them Gals get after the
    shopping thang.
They are like athletes, they work on their game plan, the night before,
and are up early on ready for the big Black Friday.
Tough women not a sissy amunst 'em.
