In-car spyware rant

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Aug 24, 2003.

  1. Knew this was coming - in-car transponders or chips so they can tell
where you are, when you are, whether you're speeding, whether the car is
    taxed. MoTs. Whatever.

And all in the name of our benefit. For the "public good". Like ****.
"Oh, it'll help keep the lawbreakers off the road." Will it ****.
Lawbreakers who don't give a stuff have always been withus, and they
always will. Ask the fucking public, Downing Street. Do we want this?
No. And you know better, of course.

As for controlling villainy, don't make me laugh. Got to have a tax
disc? Photocopy or these days, scan, one: it'll be Ok for a casual
glance. Got to have insurance? Ditto. or just don't have any. Get
banned? Carry on driving. Who cares? The car isn't registered in your
    name anyway.

And all this will end with spyware? Yeah, and I'm a fucking Martian.
Instead, we'll all get nice little buff envelopes telling us that we
were detected doing 75 in a 70, five times in one day, and please
incinerate your licence now. Oh, and send us a fucking great fine first.

It's more tax, more harassment, more nanny state-ism from a corrupt,
morally bankrupt bunch of hypocritical cowboys masquerading as a
    legitimate government.

And if you think they'd exempt bikes, think again, pal. A chip embedded
in a new-style number plate, which will be fitted come MoT time, is all
    it will take.

Paranoid silly season rumour-mongering and conspiracy theory!

And if they do try it it'll spawn a whole new, and very profitable,
    industry of counter-measures ;-)

So vote them out and get in another lot who will do exactly the same
thing. This sort of enforcement which is driven by the availability of
the technology will be implemented by whichever political party is in
    power.
Yes, and? Now either set up a campaign to stop this if you feel so
strongly about it or else go and chill out. It'll be doing your blood
    pressure no good at all.

I was watching car-wars the other day and they had a numberplate recognition
system in a patrol car. The two coppers were getting well excited at the
amount of "Hits" (Tax, MOT, Reg. you name it) they were scoring.. This is
already here. If you're doing a bike up, or buying one then for god's sake,
test ride it in a cul de sac - unless of course, like me, you would spend
hours sorting one day's insurance out and ringing the DVLA to check it's
    registered ok. Like hell!

The streets of London now contain a burgeoning number of parking attendants.
They used to turn a blind eye to bikes, but now they ALWAYS give a ticket.
The whole structure has been changed to give much kudos to the over zealous
parkie. As a courier, I have had 13 since Feb (Funny, that's when the
incentive scheme was started..) and 2 in the five years preceding that. I
have no plans to pay, or contest these tickets, they can come and get me
themselves. I got ticketed for obscuring my numberplate, too. In fact, I got
arrested following the short circuit this event caused in my brain (Uuurgh -
Can't win!) under section 5 of the public order act (Top of Carnaby street
if anyone here was there!). Well, ok, so i'm a bit of a nut, but it's become
    absolutely crazy out there.

Education, education, education? More like Legislation, legislation,
    legislation..

Sorry to butt in with such a long rant, but I feel sick with the thought of
    being forced off the road..

BTW - love the writing in C&MM, TOG!

Indeed. We can only hope that they sub out the chip manufacture to
    Magnetti Marelli.
"The Untouchables". Those who know exactly, to within a millimetre,
their way around the system: how to scam it, precisely how far they
can go. Nothing in their name, no fixed valid address, no way to
    trace or serve anything.

Chuck it all in, mate. Quit the Chateau and take up residence in an
old coach wiv a chimbley through the roof, moving from layby to layby
as the fancy takes you. Live on a narrowboat and change moorings
every week. Sort the Doctor out with dreads and leather jewellery,
attach a dog to a string and away ye go.

Oh, and get an MZ to hoon about on - without tax or MoT, natch ;-)

    So vote Tory instead.

  12. Typical Labour interventionism. Labour like to control everything, to
the point they even tell you what to think, whereas the Tories like to
leave things well alone so there's more room to scam people ^C^C^C
    make a profit.

The system is well fucked. But what do you put in it's place?

I reckon party politics should be abolished and we should have locally
elected representatives that vote the way their consituents tell them,
rather than state "this is what you're going to get" up front and then
have no means of sanction once they're in power....

IMO it's the concept of "safe seats" that brings complacency, and
that's what's largely to blame for the lack of accountability.

Times, today. Front page IIRC. With a follow up inside. They are
likely to have to cover the country in roadside receivers, so I can't
    see it happening tbh.

I'd largely go along with this. Though for it to work tax would have to be
collected locally and "granted" to central government.
