ZXR400, and I'd only really popped in to kill some time instead of working.

  2. Can't believe a 400N cost that much in 1979.

The RD250LC I bought in 1980 was £1031. I'm sure the wetdream would have
    been cheaper.

ISTR they were £899 in 1978.
    £150 more than the 250.
Which was £243 more than a TS185, which is why I bought mine.

A 350LC was only 100 quid more. Excellent value for money when you
consider the addition of twin discs and much higher power output. Plus,
in 1980, if you put a deposit on a 350LC expecting an early delivery,
Mitsui gave you a nice new Bell Star helmet all painted to match your
bike when it arrived late from Japan. Supplies of 350LCs were delayed
    for some strange reason.

It was the same for the 250 cos I got one[1]. I got the 250 as I hadn't
passed my test then. Can't remember what the reason for the delay was.

According to the dealer I was the first punter in the UK to bin an LC. I
got one of the first 20 in the UK picked it up on Friday and sent it down
    the road on Monday...

[1] I'm hoping my loft clean out will turn it up.

    ^^^^^^^?

More in time and research/spannering than money tho`.

Brand new un-registered UK model (well the last official import) of the
tubers with two years warrenty for £6.4K.

Actually not bad compared to equivallent 1200+cc sports (Ahem;-) tractors.

    The shop offered me 1.3K for the Marauder.....told `em to **** off...wrote a
cheque for the Muell....sold the Murderer for 2.5K private :)

I hadn't realised that, I was under the impression only 350 owners got
    them.
A friend of the time bought a brand new 250LC on a June 1980 V plate. He
got 3 miles before hitting the side of a car that had pulled out on him
and wedging himself between 2 phone boxes after sailing over the bars.
He was doing approx 70mph down Bedford High Street in an attempt to get
TWA over the town bridge when it happened though. His was the first
smashed LC I ever saw, I've seen many more since.

FZR400, only popped to a mates for a natter and bought his bike.
GSXR750, only went to have a look, rode it, bought it.
GSXR1000, only went to have a look, bought it.

There's a theme here I can't quite put my finger on...

Me neither. Generally involving tools though I'd expect. Well... I did
go to look at a shite old winter bike once and end up buying a ZXR750.

I'd like to find a nice clean ZXR750H1 really, I don't think any other
bike has looked as visually stunning (to me) as that when I first saw
it. Still, they'll all be dogs now.

One of the journos on Bike Magazine[1] has a ZXR750 H1 in red. It's said
to be absolutely immaculate with around 15K miles and he's owned it from
new. It's got a new fuel tank and from pics I've seen it is a really
clean and tidy unfucked example. He reckons he'd be lucky to get 1800
quid for it, so give him a call and make him an offer.

[1] I think it's Tim Thompson, but TOG will know.

Is it that they all have a name where the letters end in R?

Depends on what you can afford. How do you want them disposed of, cos it
    has a bearing on cost?

Can't remember the exact date but June would be about the time I got mine.
Be a shame if I wasn't the first as it's always been a good pub tale.
Aye, I was a trend setter in them days.

Popping into the local jewellers to have a look at
eternity rings with the missus and coming out with
a diamond eternity ring for her and an Omega Seamaster
for me because I was bored while she tried everything
    on in the shop...

    Yeah, I loved those.
I like to be wealthy enough to buy new bikes and keep them nice, by not
crashing them, and by not riding them that much (having multiple bikes
helps keep individual bike's mileage down of course).

I saw a really nice early blade, the twin headlight one, a while back.
    I wish I'd bought it.
