Immobiliser or Tracker

    I'm sure there has been many a discussion on the subject, but I've
    been away.

    Do I go for an Immobiliser or a Tracking device on the new bike?

    When it's at home, it has a hefty chain to a ground anchor.

    Also, what good is an immobiliser if the crew have a petrol powered
    angle grinder and a large van?

    One thing I wondered; was what sort of response one would get if one
    phoned the old bill and said, "..my gixer's been stolen, and it's
    cruising up the A40 to London at mach 3; please can you intercept it?"

  7. ....and what good is a tracker if the bike is carried off in the back of
    a van? Faraday cage don't you know.

    Black Mike says...
    Don't bother with either. Alarms and immobilisers always go wrong
    leaving you stranded and if my bike were nicked by some scrote I
    wouldn't want it back after it had spent 30 minutes bouncing off the
    rev limiter and being kicked to bits, no matter where it was tracked
    to.

    Pay the extra on the insurance and don't bother, seriously.

    about:
    I opted for a very good alarm for mine then went to insure it, I was told
    I would need a tracker, and when I challenged this and asked how much more
    would the premium be without the tracker the yuff paused for a minute and
    then uttered these imortal words:

    'Um, nothing really, we just prefer trackers to be fitted to new
    machines'(1)

    For home I have a ground anchor, FOAD steel hawser and very large/noisy
    dog that sleeps about 10 feet away from the bike.(2)

    (1) Tossers
    (2) Fingers crossed, touching wood etc.

    Hmm, I know what you mean. The more I think about it, the more I hate
    them.

    I wonder if they would try not to pay out if there was not a full
    compliment of security?
