I'm going to have to succumb to a bout of Smeeness and pike on the Off
Centre Rally run. The usual culprits are to blame (time/money/bike
    unreliability).

I'll just stare at my boots in a shamefaced way, scuffing my toes in
    the dirt.

On a positive note, I think I've solved the bike unreliability: the
second time I removed The Jackal's cams to fix the timing, one of the
intake rockers must have moved out of position a bit. When I fired
the engine up it freed itself from its usual labours and was resting
comfortably on top of the head.

It's surprising how much difference 1 valve out of 8 makes, although
the top speed from my elderly 250cc machine is still nothing to write
    home about (135kph).

Smack who? Nobody mentioned you at Wintersun, whereas Smee was
    referred to quite often! ;-)

I was never going to go, but I got my bike back on Wednesday. Luverly.
All "new" front suspension (rebuilt with newly hard chromed
stanchions, and all replaceable bits replaced).

It's one of those things (like replacing 25yo Carby jets) you put off
because it's not really necessary, then discover afterwards that it was!

I didn't really notice the difference on the way home until I went over
the local level crossing, and instead of "clatter bang rattle bop" it
    just went "brrrrrr".

I guess I really do need to get a set of Ikons for the back and see what
    difference that makes.

On Thursday the earth bolt that holds the earth wire on decided it
didn't like doing that any more. So I tightened it up. Anyone know
where to get really fine thread helicoils?

    (It'll be fixed by tonight)

So Sunday will be my first chance to try it out. I feel a circuit
through Noojee to Sth Gippsland coming on.

The bolt is an odd one. I t has an extension that secures the speedo
drive, and a hole down the middle that serves as a gearbox breather.

Bough a chemical thread repair kit at Supa Cheap ($22 is cheap?) Some
sort of epoxy and a release compound to put on the bolt. Seems to have
worked. Was a bit worried that conductivity of the earth cable might be
compromised by the epoxy thread, so I installed a second earth cable to
    a bolt on the frame.

Too kit for a little run today. Kangaroo ground, Yarra Glen,
Healesville, Launching Place, Warburton, Reefton, Black Spur, Toolangi,
    Kinglake, St Andrews and home.

    It's like a new bike.

Odd sight of the day... A cop car parked up on one of the tight bends
near the top of the St Andrews-Kinglake Rd. Lying is wait for a bike to
come blasting up the short straight. Only a bike could expect to hit
100k on that stretch, and a rider intent on scratching probably wouldn't
see a cop car parked off the road on the outside of the fast-approaching
    left-hander.
