No, actually I was thinking that it'd be hard for me to back off by 10% if I
_am_ being timed, 'cos I'll be trying to shave a few tenths off my best lap,
rather than doing a few slower sessions to concentrate on technique

Heh! My first ever track day was there, and I think I was running
one-forty-somethings. Must do another session there and see how much my
    track experience has benefitted me.

When I first got the gixxer I was really struggling on mountain
hairpins, lifting the back wheel on the way into corners and stuff,
and was royally pissed off when I got stuffed[1] by some bloke on a
Hayabusa with his young daughter on the back.

"Backing off" a bit was exactly what I needed, and did, to allow
myself better to judg, amongst other things, corner entry speed
therefore becoming quicker out of them. Sometimes Slower=Faster. (Slow
    in, Fast out, etc.)

[1] Well, he was right on my tail through every bend...

I don't think it does work on the track, actually. Fast guys don't
look smooth nowadays, they look aggresive. IMO, of course.

Rossi always looks smoother, to me, than Sete, Max et al.

    simonk says...
I thought you did a "back to riding" refresher course every time you
    took your bike out
