But much less of an opportunistic crime
    As does mine, now.
I also have a b/w photocopy, with 'original with rider' written across
it, in the tax disc holder on display.

    Stritchy :
A couple of years ago, after getting my tax disc nicked, I attached it to
the bike in such a way that you had to remove the three bolts holding the
chain guard on to get at the tax disc holder, and then take the holder
    off the chain guard.

So they nicked the chain guard as well.

The two weeks grace thing went out with the ark. In the old days you
sent off (via the Royal Mail) for the tax disc (or sat around all day at
your local[1] licencing offices. They allowed two weeks in case it was
stuck in the postal system somewhere.

Then post offices started selling tax discs over the counter and there
was no need for the two weeks grace period anymore.

There is no 14 day concession in law and never has been. It used to be
a common policy though that went out about 7 or 8 years ago

Fucked if I know what I paid for this years insurance. It was less than last
    year, I know that much.

I think it was about 300, say 250 - 350, that should cover it. Just cos I
    don't know, doesn't mean I haven't paid, or that I'm loaded.

Nothing I suppose (other than it's easier to nick) , Just I prefer it
    in its bolted holder.
