Does anyone in Wollongong know where I can learn to ride?

    Cheers

RTA at Unanderra does L/P courses. Call the RTA to make a booking. The L's
course assumes you have only ever ridden a push bike and makes no
assumptions about previous motorbike experience. They really do "walk you
through it". If you can't ride after the L's course, you wont get a
learner's permit and you wont be allowed to ride on the road.

If you really want to get some motorbike experience before you take the
plunge with the RTA, check out the local motorcross (dirt bike) clubs.
They will let you tear around their tracks without a license and most
provide some level of instruction if required. Then go do your L's :)

FWIW, I hadn't ridden a motorbike in about 20 years, and never ridden on the
road, when I did my L's course and passed it without any problems. Passed
the P's too on my 1st attempt. I was a bit nervous on the L's course but
it wasn't that hard - just gotta listen and pay attention. If you can ride
a bike (balance) and drive a manual car (co-ordination) you shouldn't have
too much trouble on 2 wheels.

    Have fun.

A person can be serious at times also.
I do assume that troll means tart.
But thank you for pointing out old news, it makes me feel remembered.
If only for being a troll ;-)

And I think the RTA option would be my preferred choice.

On another serious note, would anyone have any suggestions on a light 250.
I have a wrist with some pins in it which may affect me using a heavier
    bike.

    Cheers

I don't think the weight of the bike will be a problem, as most of the
moving with the engine off you take the weight on your hip and push with
    that.

When the engine is on, it's the throttle/carbs that uses the wrist.

If you yourself are fairly light, a light small bike is a good idea, but
what bike you get is mostly going to depend on
    - how much you want to spend, remembering that you should budget
    $500-$1000 for riding kit
    - the use you make of it - mostly city, city and freeway, country,
carrying lots of stuff cos its your only transport, and so on.
    - the kind of look that floats your boat - racerep, harleyrep,
    dirtbike, just bike.

So give us an idea of how much money you wnat to spend, and the sort of
use it will be getting, and we can go from there.

  6. I did Gerry but I was way to ston^H^H^H^H paranoid to post at the time!

BTW, Charmayne, a troll is someone who deliberately baits and leads the
newsgroup on but we won't hold being a tart against you either.

Well for now I will be just learning to ride a bike and with my wrist I
won't be using the bike for long journeys.
It will be purely for pleasure.
I would like a sporty kind of bike, thats easy to manage. It will be mainly
    used for around the city.
For a starter bike I was looking at paying around $1000 to start with for a
good second hand one. (Is that reasonable?)

And to just touch on my first posting, I do find guys in motorbike leathers
    highly attractive ;-)
I was just posting a point of view and a daydream. I did not post to be a
troll. I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

    Cheers

Suggest CB250, GPX250. Lightweight and upright seating position means
little load on that plated wrist.
Errrm no. At least 2K to get something decent that will be reasonably
reliable.Anything under that is liable to be unreliable and/or extremely
old (and hence heavy, poorly braked and hard to find parts for)
You'll change your mind once you've met a few of us :)
You didn't offend anyone, and even if you did, stuff 'em ! :)

"So far Howard's luck has survived a great deal: his move to dismiss
broken election pledges by distinguishing between "core" and "non-core"
promises; his retrospectively time-limited "never ever" pledge on the
goods and services tax; his vagueness about when he committed Australia
to war against Iraq; his shifting standards for ministerial conduct; his
demonising of asylum seekers as child killers; his tendency to blame
"advice" rather than to openly accept responsibility when things go wrong."
Will Howard's luck survive another election ? Do Australians not care
that their PM is a liar ?

Ya bloody goose you've met me several times (in fact I was there for the
Hamburglar photo you referred to only hours ago) and you also know
bloody well I'm not old enough to ride one of those BMW thingys yet
(although that officially middle aged birthday is looming at a horrid
rate). Furthermore I don't have a soul, that's one of those BIG LIES
like the ones our PM likes to tell, designed specifically into sucking
you into "pie in the sky when you die" so that you'll work harder for
the man while you're on the ground. And lastly I'm definitely not
erudite, edjumicated definitely but erudite ? Never !

  18. CAM ride in Canberra is one. Also present were John Curry (flash BMW from
Melbourne), Mike O'Connor (Moike, BMW from Melbourne), Hammo and Kathy,
Rip Hangry!, Crazy Cam, Tim (BMW), Matt?, Uncle Scum, Rosco and Mrs,
Steve, myself, you (BMW) and prolly some others my long term memory has
started misplacing. I believe John Littler was riding the TRX at the time.
We retreated to the Wig and Pen for refreshments after realising it was a
stinking hot day and there was no bar at parliament house.

I think we mainly put shit on each other and Rip but I'm sure many
    memorable things were said!

Hammo had the good looking chick with him and has since done the Tantric
    thing with surprising results!

John L was busy searching bars late into the night to hopefully practise
    doing the same!
