    Hi Smack,

I've come across these guys already. Thanks for searching for me. I've
already mailed Ken Maxwell but to get the right electronics information is
not very easy. Hitachi and Yamaha seem to keep all detailed information on
electronics a secret. But some day I'll find out.

    Regards,

    Haro

I have a 1982 XS650 SJ and I was wondering the same thing. I'm going to see if I can get
a old unit and get into it, I'll keep you posted. It never ceases to amaze me how many
Gold Chainers and non Gear Heads come out of the woodwork when you ask a question like
    this.

A truly hideous POS. Their only saving grace was decent brakes that
    worked when wet.

  15. Indeed. They were awful. Most of the ones that came to the Uk had their
engines and running gear ripped out by Moto Vecchia, who then installed
    them in Verlicchi frames.

Arrgh; a TL! Sorry; I just assumed it was an SL! (fail reading and
    comprehension)
    http://www.moto-deal.com/encyclopedie-moto/galleries/ducati/thumbnail/Ducati-600TL-Pantah-1985.jpg
(warning; looking at a bigger photo could damage your eyes)

They were a failure here in Oz too. Someone at the distributors tried to
pretty them up by trimming the sidecovers around the coloured stripes thus
exposing that pretty engine but I still hardly ever saw one on the road.
They discounted them by $1000 until they were cheaper than the 500SL but
    they still didn't sell...
....and then someone realised that they were mechanically identical to the
600SL and thus would fit the Tony Rutter-replica TTF2 bodywork kits that
    were readily available!
Suddenly all of the TLs disappeared and a whole bunch of very pretty F2
    Pantahs appeared instead.
Now why didn't I think of that!

Oops, I missed that it was a TL and I assumed he had an SL.

I agree though; mechanically the TLs were excellent (Marzocchi/Paoli
suspension, Brembo brakes etc) but fark they were hideous.
The Eyeties sure produced some fuglies in the late 70s / early 80s!
