....you might like Kerrang Radio, which has just started broadcasting
(105.2FM). All you reallly need to know about it is that Darsy would
hate it. Fortunately for him, it only seems to broadcast from
Birmingham at the moment - I'm right on the edge of the reception
    area.

Content is a bit wider than pure heavy metal - yesterday (driving to
Warwick and back) I heard The Muse, The Hives, and J-Z. And, er, Guns
    'n Roses...

Plus a fair bit of Rap/R&B as well which , while often decent enough music ,
probably doesn't belong on Kerrang radio.

  4. Yeah been up and running in Brum for a while. Started out just as loops
of songs but I think now they have the odd advert and a bit of DJ input.
They were also playing whole albums in one chunk, not sure if they've
    continued with that.

It's a fucking disgrace to the name Kerrang.

Proper metal and rock don't even get a look in. Mostly guitar based
pop played by a commercial radio station that obviously has a set play
    list.

They're playing The Streets, 50 cent and Eminim ferfucksake.

I think it's also available nationally on Freeview and DAB, who also have a
selection of stations playing decent music.

Sounds dire, and I say that as one who appreciates the sound of a guitar,
rather than washing machines and sound effects from early 'Pong' machines.

the whole concept of "Kerrang" mildly amuses me. You've got to realise
that they're not being serious when they had a vote for "most
important person in rock" and the no.1 was Sharon Osbourne.

The feed on Freeview is different to the radio station.
On FV its DJ-Free and sticks to the sort of music you'd expect from Kerrang,

I like pretty much everything I've liked by The Hives[1], so I might
    have to buy their album.

[1] "Main Offender" is great. And not hurt by being used as the
soundtrack to the "Kylie rides a mechanical bull in her underwear"
    Agent Provocateur advert.

....and - I'd not knowingly heard anything by Muse (and wondered how
they got to headline Glasto) - a mate at work said I'd like them, as
they sounded a bit like Radiohead.

Anyway, driving along, listening to something I didn't recognise, I
thought "This sounds like Radiohead - only better"...and at the end of
the song, it was announced as being Muse.

More like gay Radiohead meets Sparks. Their lead singer needs to calm down
    a bit IMO

  17. Stunning guitar playing. You need an MP3 of the single "Plug in Baby",
not sure what album it's off as I found it a bit patchy so didn't get
    the whole thing.

We've got plenty of calm bands. He needs to crank it up to stroke levels.

Actually I was talking to the drummer from a band who just got signed. He's
one of 5 brothers (all in the band) of Elvis Costello and told me exactly
what Oliver's Army is about. The most noteworthy thing about them is that
the younger they get the less like EC they look so the eldest is a dead
ringer and the youngest looks like Roland out of Grange Hill.
