Yes he would make a frighteningly good opposition leader. A bit to fond
of the old tipple to be PM I would have thought though.

  7. Although picking him as leader would almost certainly split the party, he'd
at least carry the "good" people with him. The party faithful who can't
stand him are probably too brain dead to vote any other way than Tory, so
probably wouldn't cause many problems at a general election[/QUOTE]

Splitting the party seems to me to be the only way it'll
survive anyway; these divisions need to be sorted in some
way. Splitting is easier than papering over the cracks.
And the "party faithful" are the ones who are dying off
    (from age) anyway...

The trouble is, no matter where you go, everywhere's run by civil
servants reporting to politicians. Best thing is to take no interest
whatsoever in politics and, as you suggest, just move to wherever
    suits you best.

    Works for me.

Oddly, I would suggest that you talking utter bollox and are indeed
taking an interest in politics and quite a strong one at that. Placing
upon yourself a strong definition of what constitutes your "right" sort
of society and then constantly harping on about how wonderful life is in
your little world is, by any definition, "taking an interest". If you
were to stop expressing opinions on the matter then I would truly
believe that you really do have no real interest in politics.

Or that is how I look at it anyway.

Bloody hell, what did I do to deserve that? AAMOI I didn't move here
for any 'get out of england' reasons, I have no definition, strong or
otherwise, of a right sort of society, and I certainly don't think I
_ever_ harp on about life over here being wonderful.

I mean, _my_ life over here is pretty good, but that's hardly the
fault of the government, is it?
My only 'interest' in politics is avoiding it.

Would it help if I told you I don't know any government ministers' (or
opposition types) names in either England or France, except that
president bloke, err, Chirac, I think he's called, and Mr Bliar and
    that nice Mr. Blunket.

I gather that a certain IDS is just hanging on as leader of the tory
opposition atm, but have no idea, or interest in, who's gonna succeed
    him.

But these are facts you cannot avoid, unless you make a positive
effort to switch every news bulletin off. 'Taking an interest in
politics'? No, I don't think so.

    Nothing in particular.

It is simply; I feel that those who express a strong desire to be
allowed to express no strong desire are in a state of denial.

By my definition it is. Government is a subset of society. and you have
found one which suits you. Lucky boy.

    Denial.

Clarke could get them elected, Letwin, Portillo also, maybe Yeo, the
faithful would never elected them though. Davies is another Hague/IDS and
Howard is probably just about right wing enough for the membership.

There biggest single error was to allow the membership to chose the
candidate if they ever want to hold power again.

Personally I'd love to see David Davies.

You've got that backwards, trust me.
Not wise unless you like extremists in government. Don't like it? Think it's
a gravy train? Then stand for election as an independent...

Look I'm being told from all sides that I have to be tolerant and inclusive.
It's simply not on to discriminate sexually against fat ugly girls with big
    tits.

Hold on....I never have (after a few Shandies).
