It probably was (or at least not properly adjusted for you). On a
properly set up tadpole (2 wheels front, one rear) trike the chain will
stay quite happily where it belongs - it's just a matter of getting the
    tensioning right.

  2. Damn right.

And drove one of the best engineering companies on the planet out of
    business.

Alan Clark was right - a century ago, we'd have had Walter Somers and
Matrix Churchill as flagship companies in ay international trade fair,
and we'd have said; "Wanna supergun? We can do that...."

  3. Gerald Bull was one clever bugger nearly all the guns produced in the
world now are to his spec.

Now who bumped him off the Israelis or the Iraqis?

Carol Hague must be edykated coz e writed:
You can still get a bit of rattle when the tension releases after a vigorous
    pedal.

Not something I've ever noticed - but then I'm not exactly reknowned for
    my vigorous pedalling :)

It might vary a bit between different trikes too, depending on placement
of any intermediate pulley wheels and the exact arrangement of the
chainline. Generalisations are always wrong :)

We used to have a problem with our Greenspeed tandem trike throwing its
rear chain from time to time, but once we got the tension right it
    behaved itself nicely....

Er well I don't? but you'll tell us....

Not that I have mind, the pencil test being rather important.

I read both Parkinson's autobiography and that of Sara Keays and I
find them both repellant. They shall certainly be together in hell for
    all eternity.

Well obviously not. But it would be interesting to see 'zis Guy'
confronted by Adie, trying to justify his calling her a wooden fucking
    box.

I mean, she's far harder than wood...

Also very common with the Frogs, but it was only quite recently that I
realised they were just using them to keep their backs warm.

At a guess, I'd say she's maybe a touch more animated too.
