Ice coated white lines...

Are probably one of the worst combination of things to brake on.
Junction that happened to have the lines in the lee of a hill - where the
sun hadn't hit and melted the frost. Car comes around the bend rather
quickly, so I brake suddenly (already coming to a stop) - as I put my feet
down, the front wheel hits the ice and the bike goes down (first drop of
the vfr). Didn't scratch much of the bodywork (blessings of unpainted
coloured fairing, means that the scratches are white inside too.) Landed
straight on the brake lever though, which snapped straight off at the
pivot - which meant I had great fun pushing it the remaining 1/2 mile up
the hill to the bike shop.

Makes me glad that there's one in Cinderford! Luckily they had a lever in
stock (£11) that fitted, so I put it on and went on my way.

Clumsy ****. Doesn't the rear brake work?

If it was uphill I'd ride it without any brakes.

But I wouldn't bump start it without a front brake. That's not
    sensible...

It was a slight gradient to push it up, but I wasn't about to tempt fate.

Well, I could be encouraged to make an exception.

Nice try but I don't think that under current rules it qualifies for the
FBOTY. I could be wrong mind.

Personal injuries have to be physical. Psychological trauma does not count.

    Broken lever not severe enough.

    Don't try harder next time.
