Couldn't get you on the phone.
Hopefully your mate did 3 months or more in the ADF pre 1981. If so there
is a special class of visa for him.

If not I hope he likes studying. Student visas are a common way of buying
your way into Oz at around $10k-$25k a year.

A 2 year work experience program with an Australian business might work
too. You could do that I think, I didn't see any size requirements for
the sponsor last time I looked. You might want to look into that.

He may be too old for skilled migration without a special ruling (45 is
the cutoff) The company that sponsors those has to employ 10 or more
    people too. Not so easy.

    Good luck.

  5. Racism: "Irrational prejudice".

If you can demonstrate how prejudice against ignorant, violent
criminal imports from the middle-east can possibly be "irrational",
    we're all ears.

OK, lets give it a go:

Its irrational to stereotype an entire ethnic group through the actions
of a few of its members.

Racists do this however. Even your own rhetorical question was an example
    of this irrational thinking.

Racists often selectively report bad behaviour by members of a target
minority and attempt to keep the stream of selective reports flowing
until selective retention in the target population shifts perception and
they believe the bad behaviour is typical for the target minority.

Racists are often far more exposed to this process than the population at
large and so develop selective perception much earlier.

Selective perception appears irrational unless you are aware of the
    processes that lead to it.
