I took the bike to Ely Catherdral a few weeks ago, although they
wouldn't let it in. I have never seen such beautiful colours as those
in some of the stained glass windows. Deep and vibrant.

Religion is still shite though and nothing but way of excerting power
over the masses.

 

I wasn't at any point trying to say otherwise. My point, if indeed I
had one at all, was that any differences between them were already
based on superstition and prejudice between different groups of
essentially the same people.

It's not _him_ I'd be lying to though, is it? It's the parents, their
family and friends etc. It may be that many, or all, of them, are just
going through the motions, but I couldn't bring myself to proclaim to
the world that I believe in god.

 

Ah, fair enough. When my friends got their kid christened, we were *all*
going through the motions[1]. They just said they wanted her christened so
she could make her own mind up whether to follow up on it when she was
older.

Or something like that.

I look at it this way. If I *am* called upon to bring her up in the
Christian manner, I can just tell her to do what the **** she wants to
anyone, lie, steal, cheat, persecute, kill and generally be a complete
hypocrite, and my work will be done

[1] With the possible exception of the in laws.

I was looking at something based in Rome; be your own boss, company car,
pension plan (sort of), international travel, manage world's largest
land-owning concern, etc.

However they weren't to keen on me having Sunday's off to go bike riding.

There is much to be admired of the Church and their buildings, but there
is also a lot to be wary of, and actively opposed, in organised religion.
