    Bikes, that is:

prompted by watching this mornings top fuel drag bike championships from
Alastaro, Finland (1) on Channel 5.

    1000 hp, 6.8 sec's to the 1/4 mile (2) and a terminal velocity of around 180
    mph.

Tuned TL 1000's and Higherabusers seem to be favourites, I noticed.

Oh, and it was wet as ****. Much use of stutter boxen (3) apparently.

    1. Anyone been, seen it, or even had a go ?
    2. So that's 0-60 mph in ?
    3. Whatever they are.

You'll have to shout louder than that. He can't hear you.[1]

[1] That's what *he* says, anyway.

Am only quotin' the girly on the tv, maybe it had two, twin engines.
    Heh. Good point.
    One for the mental database.

That's one of the things I noticed. I've seen a little drag bike on tv before,
but never really watched properly, they were pretty much on the edge of losing
    it, alot of the time.
I bet. I assume nitrous is not allowed on rwyb.
I'd love to try it, on a fast bike.

Been and seen it, around '89-'91 I wuz quite the fan. The bikes are fun,
but the Top Fuel Dragster make you go "Holy fucking shit", but only after
your ears have repaired themselves, and your body has stopped vibrating.

Dunno but I do recall hearing a few years ago that the top fuel cages
hit over 100mph in about two car lengths, which is 50 feet.

  9. Twin engine, big bore Harleys were the *thing* when I last went (Marion
Owens) & there was an Aussie(?) guy who had cut a 5.something litre
v.twin from an old aero radial engine but didn't have anyone else to
    race in his particular class.
Seen plenty. Would rather watch than have a go - can be rather
expensive as well, not counting binning it or blowing an engine - read
somewhere recently that the Harley riders are now wearing Kevlar flak
jackets in case the engine *throws a rod* =8-O

Mmmm, surprisingly tough, I hear. Mined ewe, the septics have been
tuning the **** out of HD twins since time began... 7-second Harley,
    anyone?
....now "Shakespeare County Raceway" which amuses me, anyway.
    :)

    Quite...

Hasn't deterred some of the ProStock/ProMod crowd...
/Almost/ spot on -- Super-Gas class, initially (9.90 sec index) and
latterly the mad, bad world of Pro-Modified (open-class nuttery).

Nitrous-Oxide? Perfectly legit, old bean. RWYB is pretty much always
open to anyone with a licence (road) with a machine that will pass
    scrutineering, i.e. not dangerous.

Nitro-Methane, otoh, is a different substance [1] and entirely
unsuitable to use outside of Top Fuel/Funny classes.

Methanol, however, is very safe stuff.

    There is an old and very tired adage from the world of drag-racing;

    "Gas[2] is for washing parts,
    Alcohol's for drinking,
    Nitro's for racing!"

It used to be on t-shirts everywhere in the 70's and 80's and prolly
before that, too. Note that "Nitro's" is a contraction of "Nitro-
methane is" and not to be confused with "Nitrous", the commonly used
    expression referring to "Nitrous-Oxide".

    HTH.

    It's not that nasty.
It's not you know. Burns with a hard to spot flame, and nasty if
    absorbed through the skin.

I fucked the clutch in my GSX750EFE at a 'Run what ya brung' at Santa
Pod one weekend over 15 runs.

The next month I went again, and fucked the whole engine.

I gave up on girlie drag racing after that.

  19. But can he confirm that prolonged use of mothballs will damage an
