Yeah. Whenever I see someone tapping the ash out the SUV window, where
it may get in my eye, or start a fire beside the road (the latter is a
frequent occurence in Summer and Autumn, BTW) I think "newcomer!"

My mom gave it up within a year of moving to CA. My Dad (another
    newcomer) never could.

  2. Ash won't start a fire. It is quite impossible. I have put "live" cigarette
ash in my hand and it isn't even uncomfortable. Warm but it doesn't burn.

Flicking the burning butt out the window is another matter.

  3. In either case there is one big difference. Once can find the butts along
the road. I have never seen ash along the road. I would be willing to bet
a diesel pumps out more ash than 1000 smokers.

The dead ash isn't always the only thing they drop. With the added
nitrates, the butt stays lit as long as there's anything left. Real
tobacco cigarettes go out when you quit drawing at them, but not the
    stuff made here.

  5. I was told it was glycerine that they added to cigareets to keep them from
drying out and so they would keep burning. Tobacco on it's own will quit
burning quite readily. Cigars are not treated and they will go out if not
puffed on. I do admit that I like a fine cigar on occasion. I met a
fellow that never lit cigars. He just sort of chewed them.

Well, they got tired of people spitting on them. Kill your
    mother, **** a goat, that's cool..... but for god's sakes don't smoke.

  7. Right after the company instituted the no smoking rule at Bell Labs, a few
of the fellows went out and bought brass spittoons and put them in their
office. They then put up signs that said, "You can tell me not to smoke,
put you can't tell me not to spit."

  8. Hmmm... never actually thought of wearing a cup while riding. Might make
the fuel tank on my R6 a lot less threatening on rough roads.

Glad you're OK, Larry. I'm sure there will be all sorts of interesting
    "mods" by MotoGP time.

I've ridden both the aptly-named Brutale and an F4. My thoughts riding both
bikes were "Holy crap, this thing won't ever run out of power or handling".
Denise is right, a real torture rack. Totally unreliable and impractical
for everyday use, which adds to the air of exotic unobtainium.

faithful readers know I spent the better part of five years in Cali,
and believe me, I tried almost everything at least once. I left one step
ahead of my howling creditors. I believe I 'll stay on Maui, thanks.
