I tossed Mr.RC45 away...

Discussion in 'Bay Area Bikers' started by Larry xlax Lovisone, Aug 16, 2005.

  1. I'm OK but I did tossed Mr.RC45 away in a hairpin... I should have known better
that H36 surface is bad... I just traveled across it the day before and managed
many a moments slipping about... this time I failed to notice a perverse patch
of sand on my line... as the front began tucking I thought if I can just unload
the tires a bit she'll bite... no way... I think that move put me in the thick
of it... I thought if I can just arrest the tuck with my knee slider... no
way... I'm sliding on my elbow now... in quick order my butt hits the pavement I
come to uneventful stop while Mr.RC45 continues up the hill... time to give
myself a good talking too... time to apologized to the VFRD group and to
Mr.RC45... oh damn... so ends 21 years of no spills... so now I'm thinking that
we got the crashing out of the way... let's go kick it and wick it!!!

Mercy me... I left some very expensive marks on old H36...

I hate being my own crash test dummy but now I know how my home made stuff
works... The Delrin frame sliders... non folding billet aluminum foot pegs and
    billet
handle bars were designed as 3 hard points good for sliding down a track... I
    gave
them passing marks for sacrificing themselves in order to protect the aluminum
    tank
    and most of the plastic...
    http://www.fox302.com/userdata/netters2/files/ShopPics/H36CrashDamages.JPG

All in all it wasn't a bad weekend of riding... at least there was no tickets
and no trouble with the law... I can still hold a smile but it make me sick
inside every time I go out in the Busy Little Shop and look at it... there's
some plastic rash... you see I watched Mr.RC45 bulldozed through a pile of dirt
when it skipped off the asphalt...

    For those who don't a thing about California's H36...

    Crashing sucks!
    Glad yer okay.
Could have been lots worse (lowsides are always preferable to the
    highside)!

Gonna turn it into a stunter now? ;-)

First, I am glad you are alright. What a testament to wearing good
    gear.

Second Mr.RC45 just has a little added character now and the patch and
repair will give you something to do when you are not riding.

The lesson has been taught. Has it been learned? Stay
tuned for the next 5 years.....

Glad to see you're ok. A bike is only a bike. It's just
stuff. It may be _rare_ _expensive_ stuff that is
virtually _irreplacable_, but it's still just stuff.

Besides, it'll give you something to do in your spare time.

  8. Larry! That's not a proper crash! In a proper crash, the machine
is wadded up into a ball and you break bones and/or sustain a
    concussion!

You *scratched* it. You road tested the leathers. You're okay. Mr. RC45
lost his cherry. It's all good.

Did your helmet touch the pavement? Time for an entirely new wardrobe.

Oh, and those scratches? I call them "racing stripes."

Heh-heh. My guess is that within one month, Mr. RC45 will look even
better than he did before the crash.

I, too, am glad you're okay, Larry. I'd wager that you're about to make
the single most expensive bodywork purchase of your life. Unless, of
course, you've figured out a way to fabricate *it*, too! ;-)

Sorry to hear about the crash; glad you're OK. You've never treated the
bike like a museum piece. A bike that gets ridden is certainly at greater
risk than one that is parked in the living room. All in all, I suspect
you've enjoyed it more the way you've treated it.

I am sad to hear that. Please give my regards to Mr. RC45 and wish him a
    speedy and full recovery.
I know how that is, having seen a few of my favorite "Mr.'s" in that state.
    My advice:
Get it as perfect as possible as soon as you can, regardless of the cost. It
always helps to see them looking good again.

  16. Glad you're OK and hope Mr RC recovers quickly.

At a get together in Sequoia this weekend, I had the pleasure of
talking to this 73 year old dude who rode in from Mojave. He
allowed as how he still enjoyed street and dirt riding as much
as ever, but lately he'd begun to really dislike the idea of
serious crashing and was changing his riding style a little
    because of this.

In another couple of decades, you might want to consider doing this too.

Larry, I know I haven't had the nicest things to say to or about you
lately but crashing your RC-45 really shocked me. I'm just glad YOU
didn't take a beating (not seriously injured) in the crash. The bike
can and will be fixed good as new if I know you at all.

  18. Now that Mr. RC45 is "broken in", maybe you'll join the AFM and race it
now...??? Glad to hear you both faired pretty darn well.

We had an MV Agusta F4 in the 4-hour endurance race this weekend. I
didn't mind being passed by it one bit--I got to hear it and watch it,
    ahhhhh.

Thanks for all the pics Larry...Personally I think you did
everything right except for not noticing the sand. and whats
with those rensports the grooves run out of groove 2" from
the edge.. that just has to suck.

The way you went down though was well thought out, and you had
the bike set up for it with the best slide protection going
    and it worked.

Myself, the bike woulda had higher wider bars on it and I'd of
dug the bar end in and stayed with the bike to insure the
front end didnt catch and take it into a high set of
    destructive flips,

On the other hand you had carefully thought out a 3 point
slide strategy that obviously prevented that. So i think you
    did very well.

and... Id leave the road rash in place. that marks the
bike as a bit more than a show piece... it deserves to keep
    those medals.
