I have to say it did get the old heart pumping a little.
I don't know, and I won't waste time finding out why they don't if that
doesn't work. It'll be "Pip, open the wheelie bin" and "Herro Sumitimo-
    san, serr me carripers"
I'd thought about fitting something else anyway and the R1 calipers had
    always been favourites.
I'm capable of doing that job alone, with my lovely Mityvac.

  2. Many years ago, I was at Le Mans, on the hairpin, at the start of the
race. On about Lap Three the works Kawasaki, ridden by one Dominique
Litaudon (strange what one remembers) came howling down the straight to
the bottom-gear right-hand hairpin, hit the anchors.....

And one of his brake calipers came off the QR pins. Not properly secure?
    Who knows.

That was *definitely* the end of him. I nearly got lamped by a marshal
for taking pix, as I was the only snapper there - everyone else had
decided to cover the start and I decided not to, as they all look alike.

Got the slides back from the processor, and sent the whole lot to Le
Mans. Not nice: not nice at all.

Yes, my memory seems a bit shot lately. Basicly, it was luck that
prevented you from getting close to the scenery, blimey. Are they the
    same brakes as Ellys 9R?
If you do replace them, do you think I could make them fit my Bandit? :)

    That's a bit bizzar.
My brakes on the Bandit are a little shot tbh. I'll put my new seal kit
in, and see if that fixes the situation. Looks like I'll need a new
piston at least, coz one of mine is marked[1]. I noticed it at the last
strip and clean, and I bet I know who did it. Can't prove anything
    though. :(

[1]Screwdriver mark? Not far anough in to get the hydraulic seal.

Best I could tell it was part full. At 90 ish I wasn't really assessing it.
I assumed the worst and id everything I was told here (that seemed
applicable) Gripped like **** with my knees and relaxed on the bars.
Seems to have worked cos the impact was nothing like as bad as I imagined
    it was going to be.

    Champ says...
No rush on my part, obviously :)
No need to do them, the pistons moved equally and freely with just the
dust seals replaced. There's no leaks or anything untoward happening at
    the caliper end.
I've spoken to two Kawasaki dealers and a local race team who raced a
9R. None of them had ever heard of a 9R dishing the discs, but it might
be possible. My problem is that the brakes were absolutely fine after I
changed the dust seals, but 200 miles later I am back at square one with
the lever travel being excessive. That doesn't sound like dushed discs
to me or anyone else, so it's all pointing at the master cylinder
needing a rebuild. I bought a new piston, spring and seals today,
they'll be going in on Saturday morning.
I wouldn't mind just trying the adjustable one to see if that's the
    problem.

  11. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
2nd scariest lift [1] I ever had was a beatup old Kraut in a beatup old
Beetle who kept asking me to lean back and get him tin after tin after
tin of beer from a case in the back seat which he chugged in serial
fashion. All fine and good, but belting down the autobahn at max
asthmatic throttle at the time and steadfastly refusing to move out of
the way of big ugly fast Mercs queuing up behind lent the experience a
    certain colour.

[1]1st scariest lift was being picked up by a pair of religious nutters.

  14. Oh yes. If you miss that right-hand hairpin, which is part of the
Bugatti short circuit, the track goes on for a while, through a chicane
and then down to the Mulsanne. That's a useful run-off area, but not
when you're doing 100mph faster than you should be.

He went through all the catch fencing and the bike hit the armco. Rider
carried on flying, into the big breeze-block perimeter wall behind.

Ah, yeah, should have explained. Le Mans used to ask hacks and snappers
to send examples of their published work in - I suppose for their own
records and also to sort out the freeloaders.

Anyway, when I got the pix back they were sickening. I really didn't
want to use them or sell them or anything. I didn't want to throw them
away either, so I just packed the transparencies off to Le Mans.

Somebody did point out at the time that the French papers would have
    paid handsomely for them :-/
