I thought I had a decent tool kit

I've never really understood the big love thing for snap on tools but
there's certainly money to be made by buying and selling on that lot.

  4. Oh, yes. I cherish the remaining S-O stuff I have (a couple of items got
lost and/or stolen) and have added to it as I see something at a rummage
sale or similar. I don't pay full S-O prices now, as it's simply not
justified, but it was, once upon a time.

The Aldidl stuff isn't too bad - it does the job in a typical Teutonic
manner - and can be left scattered around the yard while I nip inside
for any passing pikey to nick, with no real sense of loss or regret -
not so with the S-O gear; that's well indoors all the time.

One of the reasons I bought the monster snap-on tool cab is nobody is
stealing it without a crane or tail lift van

  6. It's a pleasure-of-use thing, for me. Sure, many S-O imitators feel
almost as good (some of them feel just as good), but the real joy of
using a S-O tool is the knowledge that the bugger just does the job and
won't break (well, some utter gibbons can break them, but they'll break
anything) and there's a lifetime guarantee - which I've found is
honoured, in different parts of the country.

  7. I'd not be surprised if one of the serious bidders is a race team and
certainly there will be a maintenance crowd in there. The type of outfit
I'm thinking of is one that supplies all the tools to its staff and
keeps a careful check on things (like I used to work for), so the
missing spanners problem is largely avoided by the worker having to pay
    for it.

  8. Perhaps S-O itself, from its HQ in umm... Hertfordshire somewhere. If
most of that stuff is unused it could go back in the supply chain.

Me wonders if he accumulated/purchased it all to run a business and
its gone bust so he need to sell the lot.

That would explain the duplication, the range, and the job lot.

I love using them too. But I often open the drawers just to see them looking
back up at me. And to make sure they are all lined up evenly.

Ah right, I just skimmed it. As much as I like tool porn, I skip over
    stuff I could never afford.

Ah, yes, in the questions he says he bought a workshop complete with
tools and milling machines, but he only wanted the milling machines.

Could be. I was chatting with my brothers pushe...snap on van man this
morning. I mentioned that e-bay haul and he told me that a snap on
salesman had lost his franchise thingy recently as he was caught selling
    used stuff on e-bay.
    They don't like it.

You and me both. My toolchests give me pleasure just knowing I own
what's inside them, let alone actually using them every day.
