I think it's about time we had a new list.....

Given the number of UKRMers currently taking pride in their ownership of
SOCs, I proposed a new list:

COSOC - Cult of Shite Old Cars.

Qualification is that it must have cost (or currently be worth) £500 or
less to buy, and be at least 10 years old. Ability to run it on cheapie
tyres (max. £30 a corner) and £10 oil changes at National Tyres will
also be compulsory, however exceptions will be made for anyone who
manages to get something really silly for this money (Step forward
    PeteM)

    So far we have:

Me (KoTL) - 1981 Golf Cabrio, 1992 Primera
    #1 Petrolcan - 1988(?) Golf GTI, 19?? Polo
    #2 Lozzo - 1989 Belmont
    #3 Catman - Citroen BX 1.9D
    #4 Pip - Renault 21
    #5 PeteM - Alfa 164, Merc 500SL(?), Jag XJ-S (was this a £500 banger?)

    Any additions?

I'd say drop the figure to 200 quid and make it a proper cheapie thing.
Thanks, but I won't be including the number in my .sig as this is a
    /bike/ ng.

That's no. 7, then. And may I say that is an excellent choice, blending
Jap. reliability with Rover residuals :)

It's got a Rover designed K series engine, and a VW gearbox. Made at
    Longbridge.

    Honda twin-cam lump, innit?

There's a sense of smug satisfaction in 'making progress' vs. newer and
more prestigious cars on country roads. On Weds. morning I 'hopped' down
a queue of assorted flashy Mercs, BMWs and new rep-mobiles that had
piled up behind a 4x4 on the road from the M50 to Hereford. Not as much
fun as a bike, I admit, but it did brighten up the drive to work.

Not the 216, ISTR. That had a Honda lump, and was essentially a rebadged
Civic. The 1.4 was a Rover engine.

It pisses on the local boy racers in their BMW's. All that and a wood
    interior!
My kids really can't see why there is wood in there and constantly ask about
    it!
