Just fielded a 'phone call from the new owner of the KH500 - asking about some of the bits and bobs I've stuck on Ebay. "Did you find the bike difficult to start?" 'Not 'alf' "Do you want to know why?" 'Er, yes' "The vacuum pipe was a slack fit on the fuel tap" 'err ...' "Starts first or second kick every time, now". <bangs head on desk> <sob> -- | ___ Salad Dodger |/ \ _/_____\_ GL1500SE-V/CBR1100XX-X/CBX1000Z |_\_____/_| ..79023.../...20721.../..31268. Almost exactly the same call I made to the previous owner of my old tuned X7. "Did you ever have trouble starting the bike from cold?" "Always" says he. Main reason why he got rid of said X7. He thought the poor/non-existant starting was due to the rather 'keen' porting. Turns out he always carried a can of Easystart as 'standard equipment' to get it started. Having stripped down the carbs to check for any anomalies, I find he's swapped the float bowls round. Only problem is that on an X7, only one float bowl has a jet for the choke fuel supply, and it *must* be fitted to the carb with the corresponding aperture. Needless to say he never had a working choke. Ever. Swapped them back and the bike fired first time, every time, even in frosty conditions. Result. JB
Bwaaahahahahaha! If ever I have starting "issues" with a bike, one of the first things I do is turn the fuel tap to 'Prime'. I can't believe you never tried this. <starts to snigger again> It's no good.... BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
If ever I have starting "issues" with a bike, one of the first things I do is turn the fuel tap to 'Prime'. I can't believe you never tried this.[/QUOTE] I did. Often. It didn't seem to make much difference. I even replaced all four fuel and vacuum hoses. With the little wire springs, too. To be fair, it was piddlingly easy to start, from the moment I listed it for auction, to the day it was collected. Still, at least it's gone to someone who'll get some miles out if it, and I've got a much more practical beast into the bargain. -- | ___ Salad Dodger |/ \ _/_____\_ GL1500SE-V/CBR1100XX-X/CBX1000Z |_\_____/_| ..79023.../...20721.../..31268. Look, I'm not gonna take "mechanical nightmare" jibes from someone with a Triumph *and* a Norton in the garage, okay? -- | ___ Salad Dodger |/ \ _/_____\_ GL1500SE-V/CBR1100XX-X/CBX1000Z |_\_____/_| ..79023.../...20721.../..31268. <waves 28 valves from the other two> Well, it started okay on Xmas Day and New Year's Day. I realy must try to get in the habit of using the most appropriate gear, and not the one that sounds best when accelerating - that might help the fuel consumption a bit, too. -- | ___ Salad Dodger |/ \ _/_____\_ GL1500SE-V/CBR1100XX-X/CBX1000Z |_\_____/_| ..79023.../...20721.../..31268. said... I may be totally ignorant about 'rock' music, but even I know that that lyric is from a shite song. I've lived with women who like that kind of stuff, hence I'm quite happily single now.
