I think I'll change me bike!

I've decided that I'm gonna kill myself if I keep riding my Bandit, so I'm
gonna change it for something else.
It's an M reg naked 600, with a few 'streetfighter' extras, and is in pretty
    fine condition all round.
But what to replace it with?
I'm a big fan of singles and twins. I really fancy a BSA A65 Lightning, but
it's not really a practical proposition for me.
A nice monoshock SRX600, an SZR660 (not really that convinced by them) or a
MuZ Skorpion would be safe bets. But I reckon I could get a Sachs 650
Roadster for around £2500 (including my Bandit), and I really like those...
    What about an F650?
Twins - I've no experience of (other than sitting on them) the GPZ500s, but
would it be a good choice?
I weigh 18 stone, and carry the occasional pillion.
I'm looking for a little advice on what to go for, and if anyone wants to
deal for a Bandit, try me...

Can't help you, but I'm gonna sell my Bandit 600 and get an F650 probably.

    Why? To either part.
What is it about the 600 Bandit that scares you and why do you think any
    other bike will be better?

The Bandit's about as user-friendly as it gets. Any problems are more
likely to be with you than the bike, so training might make sense. If
you're getting it wrong on the Bandit you'll get it wrong on any other
    bike just as easily.

    ""Why? To either part.

    Tricky to explain.
My last mount was an '86 SRX400, and before that, an '84 GSX400EZ. I could
throw them around and ring their necks all day with complete confidence,
reaching what I'd consider to be their 'safe limits' easily, whilst still
riding within my own capabilities. Also, particularly with the SRX, there
was a real feeling of achievement hustling along and beating the traffic, as
you needed to think three bends ahead as to how best to make haste, due to
    the lack of grunt.
I would rate myself as an 'OK verging on average' rider, and maybe a bit
    rusty.
But whatever I ride, I find myself riding it the same way as that SRX - flat
out. After a while, I find myself trying to ride it on its limits, which are
far greater than mine. It's too fast for me, and although it undoubtebly
handles better than an SRX (although I did used to 'wear through' the calves
of my jeans on that through 'horizontal' cornering!), it just doesn't feel
    as 'flickable' or confidence inspiring.
I'm not that bothered about going really fast, just making whatever bike go
as fast as it can - if my bike only does 85 (as the SRX did), then I'm
perfectly happy with that. The way I see it, there's no point having 'all
that power' (whatever the bike, and whatever the power) if you're not going
    to use it.
That's why the Bandit isn't for me, and big(ish) singles and twins are.
Singles have character, and they sharpen up your riding skills.
    That's what I think anyway!

The F650 is on the wishlist - what's led you to decide to chop your Bandit
    in for one?

Well, given that I think a supermoto of some sort would suit you best.
However, I still think that the fault is with you and you'd be better off
learning to moderate your behaviour: make the bike do what *you* want
rather than be limited[1] by the bike.

As for the "lesser" bikes sharpening up your skills, it sounds to me like
even if you've mastered those bikes you haven't managed to get to grips
with more powerful bikes, and have more to learn.

[1] I'd say you're limited by the bike, even though it's not in the sense
    of wanting to go faster.

£1,345 - that compares pretty well with your run of the mill twist and go?

They've got a couple in - might be City Motorcycles, that place in Stokes
Croft that used to be MC - and they look like motorised MTBs. Fuel in the
down tube, battery in the bottom bracket. I wonder if you can get
    Randonneur bars for touring?

Haven't been round there recently. They had those Sachs 800 v-twins too,
    when they came out.
