  3. I've got that one, as well, and, I don't know... a young Shaky Byrne
powesliding a 'Busa out of a hairpin halfway up a Provencian cliff is
somehow OK. Faken Star Boyz I can even watch and go, "OK... that's cool.
These cunts have a death wish, but seem to realise it, so it's cool".

That GOR vid struck me above all else with how inept the riders were; no
hanging off through the corners, lugging the engine on the MV (does the
tacho on that thing ever show more than 7000 revs?)... they really gave off
the impression that they were both just trying extra-hard for the camera...

Depends on your perception. On a left bend you can scan the road ahead for
oncoming traffic up the inside of the vehicle in front then nail it and go
around on the right with a moderate degree of certainty that you won't meet
anything coming the other way. You can see from that pic that he's in third
gear, right on the revs where the XX really gets up and boogies. From there
to the front of that float and car is about 1 second. I reckon I can see 1
    second down that road.

    haha

you might be able to see 1 second up that road but if something happens
to be going the other way at a velocity equal to yours, its not a "1
    second" gap any more.

    bye bye blackbird.

  7. ....and through bushes, embankments, or rock walls, or whatever else happens
to be on the inside of the corner.
So you're happy to put yourself into a situation from which there's no
realistic way out with the bike the right way up if you deem there
to be a_moderate_degree of certainty that said situation won't arise?
Say the car and float, which are together about 8m long, are doing 80 (seems
    an open enough corner),
that the bike is doing 130 when it pulls out from 5m behind the car to start
the overtake. In 3rd gear, I say the BB should be able to go from 130 to 210
(~redline in 3rd, yeh?) in 3 seconds (=> mean acceleration of ~0.75g, which,
frankly, seems a bit generous, especially with the bike leant over).
Finally, let's say the rider's an absolute ratbag and that they chop the
car's nose off when they get back onto the right side of the road, merging
back across only 2m in front.

Taking all of that, it actually takes only 0.875s and 34.45m to complete the
overtake itself. Of course, the part where you scan through the trees,
ascertain that there's a moderate degree of certainty that there's nothing
coming the other way, and decide to go it takes a bit of time, too-0.25s
sound fair? At 130, 0.25s covers ~9m, so now we need 1.1s and ~43.45mm to
    complete the overtake.

The bike doing a steady 130 the other way covers ~39.7m in that 1.1s.

That means the other lane of traffic needs to be clear for some 83m ahead.

Pace out how long 83m is. For effect, do it on a twisty road through bush
somewhere, then turn around and see if you can still see where you left the
    bike.

Passing through a corner where there's even a shred of doubt that an
oncoming vehicle could been hidden by a blur of vegetation, or an unseen
change in elevation, or any of a million things you can't even think of is a
    dope-fiend move...

That was a private joke between me and Pete. Just don't let me ever
hear you complain about the government.
You have enough money set aside in a bank account to pay for
somebody's Mercedes? Or, you would be happy to pay for your own
repairs if somebody totalled your bike whilst it was parked outside
    your favourite milk bar?
You hadn't previously told me this so how would I remember?
    OK Joe.

    don't iI

You've been riding for twenty years so you must be at least 25. How
did you manage to survive this long?

I'm suspecting you must be a troll. I don't believe anybody is that
stupid. But then I have a history for underestimating people's
    stupidity.

    I've never caused any either!
Last one I had was caused by my disklock. A few years before that I had a
biggie caused by my centrestand and back tyre.
(And the worst one I ever had was back in 1982 and it was caused by the road
itself!! It turned left when I needed it to go right.....)

kk> Well said Nev, it's clear you know how to ride.

One could debate that, given his riding history....

    :)

As for you, if you keep those stunts up, you'll soon be history. Thing
is, at 200 km/h, a 230 kg projectile can be quite lethal, even to those
    in trucks.

So, you're now telling us that your experience with high speed riding is
limited, to say the least. Yet, you espouse it as THE WAY TO RIDE..

    Wonderful.

and dropping gumnuts by the thousand. They're falling on the drive and
they don't enhance the bike's handling.
