I have an FT35 WW2 generator engine in the shedde, The T35 used these with
twin carbs and added gearbox so a nice parts donor for not much cash.

Mk1 was based on the stationary engine, so most of the bits won't fit
Mk3, 4 or 5 without a lot of fettling, and the cams are no good as the
engine went widdershins. Even the keyway in the timing end of the
crankshaft is a flat one, whereas the 3, 4 & 5 had a normal Woodruff.

I rather think its position was ever-so-slightly different too, as I
bodged one in my Mk4 (Norman Cross on the A1) and it never ran properly
until I replaced the crank with a later one.

Mind you, I might ask, are you offering for not much cash? (I want a
    Douglas that goes backwards already?)

I paid 100 for it and was disapointed to find that the cowling was
missing so running it as a stationary engine display was not going
to happen. Everything else is there but I lost interest, yours for
    what I paid.

I never see them advertised. Where should I be looking?

    [ Douglas Dragonfly ]
They show up rarely on EBay if you set up a search but most seem to change
hands via the owners club. Joining is not expensive. Bear in mind that not
many were built so turnover is not fast and you may have to wait a while.

    Patience is a virtue.

It's the only one in the world. Its owner just cannibalised two
Dragonfly engines, and upgraded the braking and some other things a tad.
You may have seen a Brough Superior.

    Done! (Don't comment!)

But at least it's something of the marque to validate my membership,
while I look for enough folding things to acquire a 'project'.

BTW, only 2,234 Mk 1s were built. There were considerably more
stationary engines knocking about. I was just too late to acquire a Big
Vin built to power a drone - There were stacks of them at Farnborough,
    IIRC.

The Wooller H/O 4 beam engine was also manufactured to power drones.
    <sob!> I want one - or better, a Flying Banana... </sob>

    The message <1iqklqw.1byllkuwx88qgN%>
from (The Older Gentleman) contains these
    words:
I'll have you know that the first BMWs were Douglas bikes made under
    licence...

Well, I thought 'Some sort of double Dragonfly?", and then I thought
'Wooler?'. And then I saw the Porsche-engined S7.
