I shouldn't be buying DiRE

.... when I've got a garage vacuum going.

I suddenly find myself hankering after a ShiteOldSportsTourer that's
    somewhat ZZR 1100-shaped.

The new PB has the ZZR1400 launch [1]; they bought what looks to be a
perfectly serviceable ZZR1100 for £975 to ride to Germany. It came with
a year's ticket and it looks like they had to do very little to it
before it was ready to do over 170 on an autobahn.

Seems like sensible money for an awful lot of bike to me.

[1] Note to Champ - the magazine is dated June 2006.

PB have actually dragged themselves out of the mire of late. It's not
back to its best yet, but it's not bad at all, and a **** sight better
than BiKE, DiRE and the rest.[/QUOTE]

I know it's written for a specific market n' all, but the fact that of
the 10 or so bikes mentioned on the cover last time I looked at it,
    there wasn't a bike below 900cc. IMHO it's appealing to the "mine's
bigger than yours" kind of biker.

You're right about BIKE Magazine, when you look 15-20 year old issues of
BIKE you realise how crap it is now.

I had a Yank built C2, it was the first of 3 ZZR1100s. It was better
finished than either my Jap built C2 and D2.

  9. What on earth were you buying Ride for anyway?

Bike's getting back onto an even keel these days[1] - a couple of dodgy
issues in the last year, but more than redeemed by some superb features,
like the one where they took a new Fazer 600 and deliberately detuned it
for more torque and slightly less top end. And everyone raved about it.

That's precisely the sort of really good tech stuff that PB used to do
when John Robinson was alive, but can't now. It was not easy to do, was
probably quite expensive, could have gone badly tits-up, and made a
very, very valuable point which - one hopes - has registered with the
    bike manufacturers.

And the Crash Issue (February) was fun, too.

That said, I've hankered after a ZZR1100 from time to time. My local
dealer has a 1200-mile as-new 1200 in his showroom, as well, for about
6.5k, which is almost as appealing....

[1] Bear is simply wrong here.

What the **** has that got to do with modern bike magazines?

40 years ago Neil Armstrong could only dream of faking walking on the
moon but he managed it eventually.

Agreed - cheaper than I expected, too, although they probably got some
    kind of journo discount.

Yeah, and in this month's 600 group test the new R6 came out on top
    with it's 17000RPM red line.

Actually I mainly bought it because they tested the new Morini Corsaro.
Apart from Steve Rose having absolutely no fucking clue whatsoever as
to why people still like 3 1/2s thirty years on, he pretty much
confirmed my suspicion that this was one name that should've stayed in
    the grave.
    Uh-oh.

  17. Absolutely.

If it's a Morini freak you want, Hugo Wilson, editor of Classic Bike, is
yer man. But you've met him, now I think on it.
